Ari and his team of subcontractors recently completed a challenging remodel of one of our bathrooms--challenging because it is a very small area with limited space. Their finished job looks better than our separate remodel of a larger bathroom completed by one of the big firms that advertises daily on television. Examples: the tile work in our small shower is exceptional, and the vanity/oversized sink is a perfect match that does not dominate the small room. There are several signs that can indicate you have air in your pipes, including unusual noises coming from the pipes, like banging and whistling, and inconsistent water flow and pressure. Spitting from the faucet right when you turn the water on is another indication that you might have air in the pipes.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

Start by unscrewing the overflow valve, which is located on the wall of your tub between the floor drain and the tub spout. Gently insert a plumbing snake down into the pipe, move it back and forth, and pull it out. Remove any hair, debris, and soap scum that comes out with it. Repeat the process until the snake comes out clean, and then reinstall the cap on your overflow valve.

While you may have some water, it's best to wait until after the repair is complete to use your home's pipes. For one thing, the water pressure will most likely be greatly reduced, leading to a less-than-intense shower. There's also the risk of contamination from dirt and bacteria that can enter the broken water main pipe. In many cases, a pro will turn off the flow of water from your water main to do the repairs, so showering won’t likely be an option.

Repiping your plumbing is when you remove the old plumbing system and replace it with newer, more modern plumbing and drainage pipes. Typically, older homes are repiped to upgrade the plumbing system. If you have frequent issues with your home’s plumbing system or live in an older home with outdated pipes, consult a professional plumber about the best course of action for repiping your plumbing.
