"It went extremely well; better than my expectations since I have a tendency to be skeptical about making sizable investments regarding equipment with which I am not fully familiar. Eric actually showed me what was wrong. He tested my water with a "portable lab" system, but then we went down to the basement and he literally took my softer apart and showed me the condition of the media beads - which instead of being a golden color, were coated black. He also showed me that about two cubic feet of media was missing! He checked the setting of the unit, and showed what they were versus what they should have been. Finally he showed me how difficult it was to turn the control dial which a small motor must do to cycle the unit through the flushing cycle. By the end of his visit, I was convinced I had a real problem. Eric gave me all the options, including the features and benefits of each. Even though he said I could have the unit reconditioned and have a warranty (shorter than on a new unit) on its performance, I opted for a new unit with the longer warranty and electricity free operation."

"Paul showed up about 2 hrs. a head of schedule. He called but I had not gotten to my voicemail yet. I didn't mind him showing up early but I could see how this might bother other people if they didn't give him the ok to come early. He had an apprentice with him (name I cannot remember). I showed him what was needed. We sat down and he went over that he would be giving my house an electric "checkup" first then within that, come up with an estimate for the actual work I called them for. The thing that bothered me is that him and the apprentice, after walking around the house for the electrical checkup, both sat at my kitchen table as I was in my office within ear shot of them. I heard them random talking (not talking about the actual work because there was laughing) for about 20-30 minutes, like they were at their own home visiting. Finally after I walked into the kitchen a couple times, Paul came and we did a walk through on what he found in the electrical checkup and the actual estimate for the work I originally called them out for. Then we sat down and he showed me the 3 estimates he came up with. For the electrical checkup, $11,700+, then another estimate of $4800+ (partial work that was listed for the $11,700 estimate) then the actual estimate for what I wanted done $198. Not to hard of which one I went with. I said the last estimate and they did the work right away. Now the next thing has nothing to do with the work done or the workers themselves, but when it came to pay them I had to roll my eyes at the company, Boy's Airtech, and how the try and make it look like you are getting a deal when you are not. Now get this, I am a Comfort Club Member so with that I get a 10% discount on work, plus if I have work done, I don't have to pay the service call of $79 (but understand, I pay $20/month for the membership). So Paul went over the bill with me and with the 10% discount I got $19.80 cents off of the bill......but wait, there is a charge called a TFS charge on the bill that is $14.75. I asked Paul what that was and he really wasn't sure, he indicated it was like a fuel charge or something like that. I looked all over the invoice paper, back and front to see if they say what the TFS charge was, there was none. Soooo...that "10%" discount now just became only a $5.05 discount. The total work they did was disconnect the electrical cord from the fireplace insert, thread it through the hole in the fireplace that was already there from the insert that was removed already and reconnect the cord to the fireplace insert. About 20-25 minutes of work. Even though I checked that I would rehire them again....I wanted to leave that blank but it would not let me so I just checked yes because I am a member, but I am really not sure."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

For minor electrical issues in Aitkin, you can safely reset tripped breakers, replace light bulbs, or test GFCI outlets—always ensuring the power is off first. If you notice persistent breaker trips, unusual odors, or signs of moisture or rodent damage, stop troubleshooting and contact a local electrician. Any project involving wiring, panel upgrades, or outdoor lighting should be left to professionals for safety.

Helpful?

In Aitkin, create a seasonal inspection plan by checking outdoor lighting and electrical panels each spring for winter wear, then inspecting air conditioning and pool wiring in summer. In fall, test heating system connections and review generator readiness. During winter, monitor for ice buildup on exterior outlets and ensure emergency lighting works. Document findings and schedule professional inspections for any concerns or recurring electrical issues.

Helpful?

In Aitkin, the timeline for electrical projects depends on the project’s size and complexity. Simple tasks like outlet installation or replacement generally take 1–2 hours per outlet, while ceiling fan or lighting fixture installation may require 2–4 hours. Larger projects, such as electrical panel upgrades or generator installation, often take 1–2 days. Whole-house rewiring can extend to a week, especially if rural access or weather delays scheduling.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Aitkin are prioritizing energy-efficient upgrades like LED conversions and solar-ready wiring. Outdoor lighting for docks and patios, especially with GFCI protection, is popular for lakeside properties. Rustic fixtures with exposed beams and integrated dimmers complement cabin aesthetics, while smart home controls and backup generators are increasingly common. Many also choose panel upgrades to support modern appliances and future-proof their electrical systems.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Aitkin should start with a thorough electrical panel inspection and clear labeling for safety. Next, install GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces. Test and replace smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as needed, and confirm proper system grounding. Assess outdoor outlets for winter gear, plan for a backup generator, and evaluate your electrical system’s capacity to handle heating and major appliances year-round.
