Small jobs welcome

"Concrete was between 6-12" thick which meant Dan and his crew had to bring in more gravel then grade it to the right pitch for water drainage. So far, all is good."

"Work was done fully. Driveway looks great, very clear communications about how to care for it etc. Everything was clear after they left, workers were pleasant when they were there. They had to reschedule once due to weather and a second time as another job took to long. They could have been a little more proactive on that communication, but it was not a big issue as they had told us these were possibilities (we just had to call to confirm). Overall, very easy to work with and highly recommend."

"My house was built in 1923 it has 2 fireplaces so the chimney
is quite large.
Last winter I really noticed a how badly it was deteriorating while I was
shoveling I kept finding big pieces of mortar in the driveway. Come Spring I
could see a great deal of the mortar was missing and some of the bricks were
loose and shifted from their original position. It also had had a huge old
antenna attached to it that I had tried in vain to remove myself.
I saw the Big Deal for Arbor Brick Works
and after reading other reviews I purchased it.
I emailed Taylor and he responded immediately, I gave him my address and said
he would go by and take a look. Within a day Taylor called and said he emailed
a proposal with a picture of what he wanted to do.  I was stunned by the
picture I never thought a chimney could be beautiful.
Part of what he quoted (replace the cement chimney cap with a limestone one) was
not in my budget so we agreed to skip that part and set a start date.
The next day Taylor called and said he’d thought about it and decided to give
me the limestone cap without any charge. He said he grew up down the street and
went to the same high school as my kids, I was from his home town and he
just wanted to do the best job he could for me.
When he came to my house with the paper work he was very
professional, polite and personable.
Taylor  took the time to explained the how and why of everything that  would be done so that I completely
understood what that I was getting. He said all they would need was a water
source and electrical outlet and if I didn't have an accessible outlet no
problem he had a generator.
They did an amazing job, they arrived a little later than
expected due to weather conditions but did let me know their updated arrival time.
They started immediately and worked until dark finishing all of the repair
work. Taylor and Sean answered any questions I had and just worked,
nonstop they all seemed to know exactly what to do and just did it seamlessly.
Taylor said they would be back the next day to apply the weatherproofing and
finish their clean up.  When I pulled into my driveway after work the next
day the driveway was so clean and the flowerbed under the chimney was untouched.
I wouldn't have known any work was done until I looked up and saw my amazing chimney
- best looking chimney on the street and an amazing experience!

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

An asphalt driveway should be at least 3 inches thick over a compacted gravel base. Areas with poor drainage should have a thicker stone base. To install a new asphalt driveway over an existing driveway, the new asphalt should be at least 2 inches thick and the existing driveway should be in relatively good condition.

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

Yes, recycled asphalt driveway costs can be substantially lower than new asphalt. With new asphalt costing between $90 and $190 per ton, this option can cost as much as 10 times more than laying down asphalt millings.

With proper maintenance, asphalt milling driveways can last 30 years or more. Over time, you’ll need to regularly sealcoat your driveway. You should also have your driveway inspected every few years and make any repairs as soon as they are necessary; this will prolong the lifespan of your driveway.
