"I used to work in the security industry. Once I got married and had kids I definitely wanted a home security system. Bought ADT about a month ago and it’s worked out excellent. No glitches or issues and everyone was awesome in the buying and activation process."

"Dan applied his expertise, did an excellent job mounting our TV securely onto our brick fireplace wall, and making sure it was to our satisfaction. I appreciated his patience and working with my concerns along the way. I would most definitely call him for hire again, as well, as recommend him to others in need of his handy-man skills."

"Phil came out and set up security cameras around my house. He took his time and made sure we went over the placement and what coverage needed to be focused on. ( This was really important to me). He did the job in a timely manner and cleaned up real well. He made sure all of the cameras were working and that the coverage was correct. He made sure all of my questions were answered. I would definitely hire him in the future."

"Jeff, Dave and the team at Lock Down Surveillance did a great job installing our home security. Jeff asked me questions to determine what security system would be best for me. Also, I contacted the business asking if they could install the system the same week they quoted me and "They did." Jeff answered all my questions and kept me informed all the way through the process. Definitely Recommend!"

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

If you're wondering what you should do with your old security alarm system after installing a new one, one option is to properly dispose of it at an electronics collection facility. Otherwise, if your old system is still in good shape, you can also donate it for someone else to use in their home.

Grounding is a great first step to prevent electrical shock, but you can take it further with GFCI outlets and AFCIs (arc fault circuit interrupters). In particular, AFCIs help protect against the type of electrical arcs that cause fires, like if a mouse chews on a wire or your laptop starts overheating at the wall. These are required in some areas of your home.

Each has its use, depending on the scenario. Security doors are primarily intended to keep people out of the home, while storm doors are used to protect the home from extreme weather. Both tend to be made from heavy-duty metal and may include glass panels to allow light to enter the home. Storm doors can feature mesh screens, just like screen doors, to allow for increased ventilation and to keep out pests. Security doors rarely, if ever, have mesh screens.

One significant drawback of home automation is the increased risk of cybersecurity threats. With more connected devices in our homes, there's a greater chance that hackers might try to exploit vulnerabilities to access personal data or even control your devices. If you don't secure your smart gadgets properly, they can become entry points for cyberattacks, risking your privacy and safety. Moreover, technology isn't perfect. Sometimes, systems can malfunction or experience connectivity issues, disrupting your daily routines. The upfront cost of buying and installing smart devices can also be a hurdle for some people.

There are several strategic ways to lower your home insurance premium. The primary one is to shop around and get quotes every few years to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Also, sometimes bundling your auto and homeowner’s insurance will get you a discount on both. Finally, try to keep your credit score up; many homeowner insurance companies use credit scores to generate quotes.
