"Mark, the owner, did a great job of advising me on options, costs and other differences! He was extremely helpful in my decision-making. The refacing of the cabinets was far cheaper than replacement, and wasn’t needed. Refacing was far cheaper and much more professional looking than painting and when his men were done, they truly looked brand new! The look was awesome. I would definitely recommend Mark to do your cabinet refacing!"

"I had my living room, kitchen and hallway including closets painted. I have an older home so there was a lot of prep and patch work necessary. The crew did a fabulous job in making my walls look fabulous again, no short cuts and my furniture and floors were completely protected. I feel like I almost have a new home now, almost. Very happy with the work and craftmanship, will use them again, totally worth the money."

"What a beautiful job. I had no idea how we would get the tall walls painted so I called Ellison Painting. Brad and Ron were excellent to work with. Professional company. Lines of communication were open, questions answered, and job well done. I highly recommend them."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on material type, size, and additional features like lighting or sliding doors.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.
