"Motors are expensive to replace in the furnace. Overall for service, I would have to give them a "B". I don't usually give out "A's" unless there is something that really stands out exceptionally well. Even though it was $300, I had a guy tell me before it was going to be $800, so I would have to give an "A" for price. I don't usually give out "A's" very much, but they were really good, so I'm going to give them an "A" for quality too. They came right out and that's unusual so I'm going to have to give them an "A" on responsiveness too. For punctuality, that's part of their responsiveness, so I'm certainly going to have to say "A" because they told me they were going to show up within a few hours and they did. For professionalism, I'm only going to give them a "B" because it's not that much significantly different than anybody else. Everybody else that I've dealt with on Angie's List has been good so they're right in there with the rest of the good guys. My first impression of them was that I was thankful that I didn't have to call Angie's List. I've had some work done by people that show up and they're like "should I bring them into my house or not"? But this guy looked like he was upstanding and knew what he was doing and all of that kind of stuff. I'd say he was in and out of here in an hour to an hour and a half. It was a good time to me."

"I had one company come out to diagnose the problem. He quickly told me that the condenser outside was ruined and gave me a price to replace the unit. I called Toasty's and Michelle quickly got someone out to my house (it turned out to be the owner). He told me what was wrong and gave me an estimate. Not only was it HALF of what the other guy was charging, he was able to get me in the next day! I cannot say enough about Toasty's!! I will use them forever for all my HVAC needs."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, through thorough cleaning and inspection, optimizing functionality, and reducing energy use.

Yes, scorpions can enter a home through AC vents, especially if the system is not well-sealed. As excellent climbers, they can scale a home's exterior and squeeze through gaps as small as 1/16 of an inch. Scorpions are often attracted to the moisture around air conditioning ducts or seek cooler areas during hot weather, using vents as a pathway inside. They may slip through small openings where the duct meets the vent cover and travel within walls before emerging. To prevent this, inspect your vents, seal any gaps, and consider installing fine mesh screens.

While both have advantages, a split system is generally cheaper than a ducted one. Because they are less invasive to install, the labor costs are lower, and they can be more energy efficient. But, a ducted system might be worth the investment if you run it more frequently.

AC evaporator coils should be cleaned at least once per year to keep your unit in good condition. For optimal performance, consider cleaning them twice a year—once before and once after the main cooling season. More frequent cleanings may be necessary for older systems, units with performance issues, or those in climates with high levels of humidity, dust, and dirt.

When faced with HVAC issues, it's best to begin by ensuring the thermostat settings are correct for either heating or cooling. If the system isn't responding, check the thermostat for proper function and power supply. It's also important to examine air filters, as clogged ones can decrease performance. Confirm the power supply to the system by checking the circuit breakers and fuses. If these basic steps fail to resolve the issue, contact an HVAC professional for a more detailed diagnosis and repair.
