Mark did a very thorough analysis pointing out problems I wasn’t aware of. I hired him because he was so knowledgeable. His team (Mark, John and Tony) sealed the rim joints, the ductwork and tops of the walls (who knew that was a problem?). They also corrected problems in the attic, added blown fiberglass insulation to R49 and removed the old whole house fan that wasn’t being used. All this in two days and cleaned up to my wife’s satisfaction. Now, 3 months later my energy bills are down at least 23%. I expect even greater savings this winter.
Description of Work: Add insulation, repair leaks, seal ductwork, remove old nonworking whole hose fan.

Where do I begin? I had been chewed up, spit out, and stood up by contractors left and right--I felt like I was dating again, no joke. I was two months into my insulation search, we were moving in two weeks, and I had started having allergic reactions left and right to the renovations. We needed new insulation in the attic and crawl space, vents in the attic, insulation around our master bed/office. And I needed to not get sick from it. As soon as I called John, he took the wheel. He's like, "Oh yeah, we've dealt with this before. You want this-this-this." He came out a few days after I called for an estimate. He took my research and did additional research and ultimately, we agreed to do denim insulation. He reached out by text to check in with us several times, as well as made himself available to answer all of my (many, many) questions. We were able to book a crew and get them in the weekend before we moved. Of course it was 90 degrees that day, poor guys. They were awesome. They put in vents, sealed and covered our recessed lighting to prevent fire hazard as well as air loss, took out rotted/damaged fiberglass where appropriate, and added the denim. It took two days, as expected. They ended up not being able to put insulation into one exterior wall because it the plaster was super fragile, but everything else was great. We'll see what happens come winter! But I'm so thankful we found AEE.
Description of Work: Insulation, vents in attic, disposing of rotted insulation. Chemical sensitivities.

John and his team at Active Energy Engineering recently conducted an energy audit on my cold and drafty house. My house is older and on a slab so it is always cold. I knew my furnace was old and inefficient but had no idea how bad it was and how much money I was wasting. They identified areas throughout my house that I had no idea was adding to the coldness. They bring in a lot of equipment and spend a lot of time with you making sure you understand all your issues. They provided me with a very detailed report explaining what tests they ran, how to correct issues they found, how much it would cost to correct, and based on your exact energy bills what your ROI is. John and his team are super friendly and knowledgeable. John recommended a new furnace and attic insulation among other projects and it has made a HUGE improvement to my house. Looking forward to lower energy bills too. They went above and beyond what I expected. He’s not going to try to oversell you something you don’t need, I really appreciated his honesty. I have already been recommending them to friends and family. My only regret is I didn’t have them come to my house sooner. A+ 10+

John and his team were very professional. They were on time and did a great job. They added insulation to my attic at home, insulated the rim joists in the basement and air sealed all the duct work. Now the basement is more comfortable. His team worked tirelessly and cleaned up after themselves. I would strongly recommend A.E.E energy audit and installing the recommended updates.

I am an energy professional at Oakland University in SE Michigan, so needless to say, I have strong opinions and deep knowledge regarding energy efficiency upgrades and technology. Let me say that anyone should be very confident that Active Energy Engineering and Mr. John Putris, PhD will take care of your energy auditing and upgrade needs. John is great, and his company is knowledgeable and reputable. I urge everyone to weatherize their home, upgrade your lights to LED and spend a few dollars to save many, many thousands more. The DTE and Consumers Energy rebates were just extended by the Michigan legislature, and you should definitely take advantage of these savings. Good luck. Feel free to contact me for more information or a non-biased opinion from Oakland University: Jim Leidel, leidel@oakland.edu School of Engineering and Computer Science.
Description of Work: Active Energy Engineering performed a blower door test and home energy analysis. We elected to install multiple upgrade options including attic insulation, wifi thermostat, duct sealing and basement sill plate sealing. The rebates from DTE and Consumers Energy amounted to $1350 cash payment, and the annual winter energy savings will likely be several thousand dollars (and that is each year). I have an older 1977 home in Rochester Hills with 2700 sq ft, so your results may not be identical, but I would wager that anyone can save many thousands of dollars by going through this process. Don't delay !!!! Do today. Your delay is like throwing cash out the window... almost literally. (PS. I also did a full LED light bulb upgrade on my own. This has a good savings as well).

From my initial phone conversation with John through the process being completed, my wife and I were very impressed with the timeliness and professionalism displayed. The whole process was completed within a couple weeks with very little impact on our daily routines. I would recommend John and his services to friends and family without hesitation.
Description of Work: John P. came out and explained what exactly was going to be done during the energy audit. After completing this process, we sat down and went over the findings. He then explained what steps could be taken to increase our homes efficiency. This ranged from changing to a programmable thermostat to adding insulation to installing a new energy efficient furnace. The plan laid out the impact each step would have on our home efficiency. There was no pressure on our desired plan of action. Once we chose what steps we wanted to pursue at the time, John scheduled for all of the work to be performed. From John's initial visit to the contractors performing various activities, everything was performed in a timely, professional manner.

The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and friendly, and helped me get a lot of rebates from Consumers Energy. In the end I have a much more energy efficient house, for a very low cost! Dr. Putrus and the rest of the staff were always on time, and completed all of the work faster than they quoted, despite having to work around my busy schedule. Also, the quality of the work was top notch, and anytime I had a concern, Dr. Putrus answered his phone and addressed it immediately. Active Energy earned my highest recommendation.

Went as projected and timely completed in 2 days. Best to have attic insulation done before it gets in the 80s because it gets quite warm in the attic easily. Since having this work done my combined utility bill monthly has decreased over 100 dollars constantly. Furnace and central a/c unit doesn't have to work as much, and I don't get the condensation on my windows like I previously did. Was even being told I needed to replace the windows from window companies, glad I didn't waste my money doing that! Received a 1000 rebate check from Consumers Energy's so only cost me 1673 out of pocket which will pay for itself in about a year and a half. Was such a good deal I showed it to a neighbor and they also had their home done and they informed me they are glad they did it!
Description of Work: On 2 furnaces provided a furnace tune up. Installed attic insulation (1650sf). Air seal rim joists. Seal exposed ductwork with plastic. Install 25` of duct insulation.

Dr. John P. came out via a Consumers Energy rebate program and ran an energy assessment on my home. He spent several hours on site and answered a ton of questions. He did not have to do that and it was great to have that interaction. AEE then sent me a thorough analysis of my home. I picked the improvements I wanted and they went ahead and finished the job very well. They also filed all the rebate paperwork with Consumers Energy. A great experience and highly recommended!

Going into this process, I was very afraid of being taken advantage of and not spending my money wisely on such a huge investment. John Putris made me feel very comfortable with my decision through his energy analysis of my house. He was very up front with me, and I always felt like he was trying to help me save as much money as possible through every step of the process. He talked to my wife about why Consumers and DTE would actually offer rebates. His workers were very professional, and I was very pleased with the work done. I would recommend this company highly.

Everyone involved is very professional. John came in and informed me of all the rebates Semco has to offer. Recaulked all windows, covered copper pipes leading from hot water tank, replaced filters in faucets all for free under the rebate program. Then conducted an energy audit informing me of simple little things I could do to close up air gaps. Told me that under current regulations my condo was not meeting current codes for insulation and told me about current rebates which would reduce my cost of insulating by a third! The crew showed up on time, worked all day, and completed insulation in one day instead of two they projected. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who wants a trustworthy, professional and very helpful company. They have already saved me more money in energy costs. A's all across the board!
