"Fantastic. Great job. On time. Did lots of extras at no extra charge. Would highly recommend him. Plan on using him again in the spring to resurface both decks and build us a new shed. Also more painting on the interior."

"I wish I would have paid more attention to the other post. The final deck is much bigger than I wanted, but it looks nice. The repair to the retaining wall is non existent...they nailed 4x4 up against the wall, took the extra material with them after charging me more for it. I have called twice and as the other party said, refuses to call back. Would never recommend them. They left the old deck material, with nails and screws still in the wood in a pile on another deck. After giving me quote, they did not build new stairs and did not make an adjustment for them and charged me extra for the price of wood."

Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing questions, answered by experts

While it’s possible to reface or refinish kitchen cabinets yourself, it requires substantial time, money, and sweat equity. In particular, cabinet refacing requires many tools and materials, costing you between $1,645 and $6,570, depending on what you already own. Besides that, this is a project that shows imperfections easily. If carpentry isn't your strong suit, hiring a cabinet professional is best to ensure high-quality results.

The cost of cabinet refinishing is $3,000 on average but can range between $700 to $6,000 or more, depending on the size of your cabinets and their location in your home. Since kitchen cabinets are often much larger than other cabinets in your home, the cost of refinishing these is higher than others, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. In contrast, smaller bathroom cabinets cost an average of $200 to $2,000 to refinish. The refinishing method also impacts the total cost, with cabinet staining being the most cost-effective option, from $4 to $10 per square foot.

Whether it’s better to stain or paint old cabinets depends on your situation, as each option has pros and cons. Paint offers a smooth, modern look, while stain highlights the natural wood grain for a charming, rustic look. Painting cabinets may cost about 15% more than staining cabinets. While paint tends to be more durable against damage because of its thick coating, stained cabinets hide inevitable dings and scratches better than paint.

A combination deglosser and cleaner can help minimize the amount of sanding necessary when painting laminate cabinets and other surfaces. Deglosser is excellent for use on heavily detailed surfaces where sandpaper can't reach evenly or at all. While some DIYers prefer to use only deglosser when painting cabinets, using sandpaper when possible saves money, and some deglossers may not work as well on laminate surfaces.

It’s important to sand your cabinets before you paint them so that your paint job will hold. However, in some cases, you might be able to skip the sanding. For example, you could use certain types of paint, like mineral or chalk paint, that don’t require heavy sanding. You might also be able to use a high quality bonding primer or a liquid deglosser which allows the paint to stick without sanding.
