Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney. If you install a ventless gas fireplace, it will release low levels of combustion byproducts back into your living space (instead of pushing them outside through a chimney or vent). Ventless fireplaces burn fuel efficiently, so the emissions are minimal—but they could bother people with allergies or respiratory issues.

You can maneuver your gas grill into place, but you cannot connect the grill to your gas source yourself. Installing a gas line is no simple task. From start to finish, you’re looking at anywhere from six to 12 weeks to acquire the correct permits, dig a trench, and connect your appliances. Naturally, the longer the gas line, the longer it will take to complete. If your plumber needs to hire additional contractors to dig trenches and navigate around or remove obstacles, this could put you at the longer end of the timeframe. 

Once the land is prepped and licenses acquired, installing the actual line may only take a few days to a few weeks, weather permitting.

You’ll need to increase your budget. Since you will likely need a new outlet, factor in $120 to $200 for it. If your gas company needs to run a new gas line to your oven, expect a charge between $200 to $2,000.
