The plumber (Patrick) arrived EXACTLY on time, was very personable, was respectful and knew his job. I am preparing my home for sale and am proactively getting critical mechanicals cleaned/inspected. I have had the tankless water heater for 5 years and have had absolutely NO problem with it. However, I wanted to make sure there were no hidden issues and that it was good to go for the future homeowners (and inspectors). (Trying to be proactive.) It turns out it should have been inspected ~every 2 years, since the lines need to be flushed to get rid of scale (mineral deposits that decrease efficiency). I was not aware of this, so it was a bit of a shock as to the cost of this process (>$300). However, the need for the process made sense. The technician (Patrick) explained the process and showed me the results. It definitely needed the treatment. He also cleaned out a sluggish drain in my half bath. I have been a customer of this company for about 10 years, and did get a discount on the price of services, and an additional $20 discount on the sink drain de-clogging. I really appreciate this, as $ is very tight these days. However, considering the amount of actual effort required, it still seems like a lot (not the plumber's fault). But then again, it is a plumbing co. (I have cousins that are plumbers in another state, and I know they are not cheap.)

I didn't even have to pick up the phone to make appointment as I was promptly contacted by their very courteous staff (a great first impression) not more than a day later. The day of my appointment, I had written down the time block wrong (9a-1pm instead of 1p-5p) and when I contacted their office, I was once again pleasantly surprised by excellent customer service and they quickly set about reworking the schedule for later in the day. I expected the technician to be irritable due to the last minute schedule change but that wasn't the case. Dean (I think) had such a great attitude and clearly enjoys his job as he took a good deal of time assessing the vent situation as well as climbing on the roof to identify if uncapped chimney was actually being used for other vent purposes (it wasn't) and providing me with options for capping (very reasonable pricing). My vent cleaning was definitely not a simple task (remember, 10-years of built up lint = blockages in vent bends, etc.), however, Dean took the time to ensure the job was done properly. Clean as a whistle. A very good experience from start to finish. I will be using Dr. Sweep again for chimney cap and most likely conversion of wood burning fireplace to gas. He inspected the fireplace/chimney, both interior and exterior, and also checked the basement (crawl space) to see how the chimney was supported. No one else did such a thorough evaluation. We then discussed some options after which I selected to rebuild the interior with river rock to replace the existing boring brick. We also agreed to repairs to the exterior chimney, which was cracked and probably allowing moisture into the attic. I received an estimate via email later that day. We agreed that the project start date would be after Thanksgiving. Due to the mild weather over Thanksgiving week, Roman called and asked if they could start early on the exterior work. I said yes, even though I would be out of town. When I arrived back home, the new chimney top (lip/overhang - whatever you call it) had been poured and the forms were in place, the tuckpointing and caulking had been done. On the day the interior work was scheduled to be done, the mason arrived on time, followed shortly by the rest of the team and what I can gather was a supervisor or manager. The initial job took 3 days to complete (hands on time), over about a week (total duration). Day 1- Removed glass door assembly, mantle and all interior brick work. Began re-building using river rock, framed out area for glass firedoor insert. Completed ~1/3 of fireplace. Day 2 - Continued build, re-set mantle. After the day only ~20% area remained. The frame was also removed from the exterior chimney overhang and the chimney was washed (or waterproofing applied?). Day 3 - Team returned ~ 1 week later to finish the re-build, tuckpoint the firebox, place the limestone hearth and re-install the glass fire door assembly. The team was professional and the mason took his time in selecting and placing the rocks in the mortar in a random, interesting design. There were a few issues/challenges they faced during execution of the project and they worked together to solve them without impacting time or cost. In addition, they did a great job in cleaning up each day. After the job was completed, they even vacuumed the area. The only area I see that could use improvement is communication. It was a bit of a challenge to get information or clarification on what was happening during the process, as the team predominantly spoke Polish or struggled with English as a second language. Luckily the youngest member of the team was a native speaker, so between him and the group leader, I was able to communicate with the team when necessary. After the project was completed I noticed a few minor things that were not quite right (one edge of limestone hearth was not quite straight, mortar around glass insert wasn't the same color as the rest of the fireplace). I was busy at the time and didn't call Roman till after the new year. He and a few of the original crew came back the day after I called and they made the minor corrections, and, in addition, did a few more things that just made the fireplace look even better! (And at no extra charge!!) Overall my experience with this company was excellent."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/il/long-grove/coast-to-coast-masonry-group-inc-reviews-396441.htm"},"position":10}]}

"The whole process of quoting, sales presentation, finance arrangement, installation was simple, timely, professional, complete and painless. The price was very competitive, the installation was smooth and prompt, and the end product is thing of beauty. This review is from a homeowner who has had a couple of terrible furnace experiences in the past decade."

"They did repair the furnace and the chimney lining (which they'd put in about 8 years prior when they were known as Bob's Sheet Meta)l. I paid them $1065 for the repair and was grateful they could fix the problem. One week after they performed the work, my ceiling and chimney began leaking. I hired a construction company to find/repair the leak and the guy let me know that he found pieces of sheet metal on my roof and wondered why. I explained about the furnace job the week before. He also found that there was no seal between the flue and heating cap on the chimney top. He called Byron's and spoke with someone who authorized him to finish their work. I had to pay the construction company $750 to repair the damage caused by Byron's. I gave Byron ample opportunity to do the right thing (reimburse me the $750) and even offered to accept a credit instead. Byron refused to accept any accountability and instead was mad at the construction company for "throwing him under the bus". There are many good repair folks in and around Houghton, MI but sadly I've learned this is is not one of the reputable companies."

FAQs for chimney inspection projects in Norway, MI
The average cost for a professional chimney cleaning is around $250, but prices range from $130 to $400 or more, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on your total include the size of your chimney, the number of chimneys cleaned, and how accessible the chimneys are.
The cost to install a fireplace is $2,440 on average. This cost can range from $150 to $8,000 or more, depending on the type of fireplace, the materials used, and the size.
Electric fireplaces cost around $1,000 to install, and mostly only require wiring installation. Installing a wood fireplace from scratch could cost upwards of $10,000, depending on the foundation needed to support the weight of the fireplace. In addition, gas fireplaces can cost between $2,500 and $10,000.
The National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA) recommends chimney sweeping once per year as a means of avoiding house fires and massive property damage. Over time, creosote and soot build up in your chimney from burning wood and a lack of ventilation. These compounds are both highly flammable, which means a build-up of them inside your chimney puts you at an increased risk of house fire. Chimney sweeping removes any residue and helps reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury from fire.
The cost to remodel your fireplace is $1,200 on average. This cost can range from $400 to $2,000, depending on the extent of work needed.
If you add a hearth to your fireplace, you can expect to pay between $3 and $200per square foot. However, if you're refacing your fireplace, the price tag will depend on your chosen materials. If choosing tile, you can pay between $1 and $50per square foot, depending on the design. Stone is a more expensive material, averaging between $60 and $70 per square foot.
On average, chimney repairs cost about $455. However, because of the vast range of potential repairs needed, the cost to repair a chimney ranges widely from $160 to $15,000, depending on the type and extent of repairs required.
