Small jobs welcome

"They did a really good job and they stand behind their work. The prices are competitive and they take pride in their work. I had a really old front door that was not insulated and they put in a new one with plenty of insulation. They also put in a new storm door and a garage side door that meant making a new doorway that's sealed properly. They answered all my questions and were respectful of the property"

"Garrett, Nadia, and Roland delivered a stress free deck building experience. Garrett was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He guided us through color and design choices, kept the project on track, and made sure we were happy every step of the way. Nadia has clear communication with us and Roland ensured we were receiving top-notch craftsmanship, every detail was handled with care. Garrett and Roland were in contact with us frequently including in stopping by ensured the job ran smoothly and checked in with us at the end to make sure we were happy with the result. The result is a beautiful, sturdy deck we’ll enjoy for years. We couldn’t be happier with our deck. We’ve gotten so many compliments already. There’s no better gathering place, we have built memories that will last a lifetime with friends and family on our new deck!"

"Wonderful experience for me as the contractor and team met with me to discuss project - reasonable cost for work done - even returning after completion to refine some aspects of the build - they've completed one porch repair and one new build (tree house with swings) - I strongly recommend Daka Renovations."

"Mike and Johnny did a great job! They gave a good quote and said they could start the following week. They did the job faster than quoted and were very meticulous with the details. They were even on their hands and knee wiping dust off our floors before they left each day. Already looking at hiring for another project we are working on!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.
