"Install went really well. They had to diagnose an internal electrical issue with the dedicated line. Needed an electrician to re-run a new mine to CB box, then new radon fan was installed."

"Tim was professional and a pleasure to work with. After he finished his inspections he stayed around and went over the results and made suggestions on how to fix the minor problems. Fortunately there were no major issues. The current home owner listened in and offered to fix a few of the problems. I had a total home inspection with a well and arsenic tests. I'd recommend them to someone looking for to have an inspection done."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to remediate radon yourself. While a radon reduction professional can make the biggest impact in your home, you can make efforts to improve radon levels on your own by sealing cracks, increasing ventilation, and testing for radon regularly.

Testing every 2-5 years or upon adjusting occupancy or structural changes maintains safe environments.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

Ideally, no one will live in a house with elevated radon levels, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of serious health issues like lung cancer. However, homes with radon can be made safe through mitigation systems, such as active soil depressurization. Testing for radon regularly and addressing high levels helps ensure a safe living environment.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.
