A wall was partically removed and Jeff caught that it supported the ceiling (not roof) so additional load bearing supports were added. He did not protect my oak floors well and I ended up with several surface scratches. Otherwise, his work was exceptional. My kitchen wasn't square, nor the floor level and Jeff made certain that my cabinets were. I used my own electrical and plummer, the granite, tile, and plastering were installed by another subcontractor at additional costs. All in all I would recommend Jeff Pisko. What I learned from my kitchen remodeling was to not hire a general contractor, but instead find the general tradesman like Jeff to do the work. Get their fees spelled out ahead of time so you know what their charges are, and check if they charge markups on material in addition to their time to get the material. Well..... I agree Bill is a very nice and pleasant man, the workers were prompt and neat. My problem is the design/install. The microwave above the stove is way to close to the top of the stove....if I'm using a large pot the lid always hits the bottom of the microwave. We paid for soft 8 soft close drawers, 3 soft close 5 don't , to his credit he did have his guys come out a couple of times to try and fix the problem, they still don't soft close. After several attempts we just gave up! The biggest problem is the quality of the cabinets we were told that they were WOOD....well they are NOT!!..... It's particle board or something.. The glaze/stain is coming off...! Oh lest we forget......the under mount sink fell in on October 19, 2013, called Bill he said in all his 20 something years he had never heard of this happening, well it happened to us! Bill had us contact GRANIT & MARBLE DEPOT, INC. IN SHELBY TWP, MI. (the company who installed the sink and granite)....They also said this has never happened. Well, they came out and fixed the sink....this time it appears they did it correct because they put a BRACE in place!! And yes there was a 200 charge! Bill did split the difference with us. ALL- IN -ALL WE ARE NOT PLEASED WITH THE CABINETS OR THE POSITION OF THE MICROWAVE. IN FAIRNESS TO BILL, WE DID NOT SPEAK TO HIM ABOUT THE STAIMN COMING OFF OR THE MICROWAVE BEING TO CLOSE TO THE STOVE .......BECAUSE WE REALLY FELT HE WOULD'NT DO ANTHING ABOUT THE STAIN BECAUSE HE DID'NT MANUFACTURE THE CABINETS (BUT HE IS SELLING THEM) OR THE MICROWAVE PROBLEM (IT'S ALREADY INSTALLED UNDER THE CABINETS.....NOTHING CAN BE DONE AT THIS POINT!)WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING FOR A CONTRACTOR TO REMODEL ONE OF OUR BATHROOMS AND CAME TO ANGIE'S LIST HOPING TO GET CONTRACTORS , AND LOW AND BEHOLD EASTSIDE KITCHEN AND BATH WAS ON THE LIST ......SO I HAD TO WRITE A REVIEW. BILL, YOU CAN COME BY ANY TIME TO SEE THE CABINETS, DRAWERS AND MICROWAVE......WE A 2 MINUTES FROM EASTSIDE KITCHEN AND BATH! WE WOULD LOVE FOR BILL TO COME BY!

This job was a complete tear-out of the old bathroom down to the studs - removing walls, ceiling, floor, tub and all the rest of the hardware. Our house was built in 1947 and this bathroom was mostly from that age. We replaced the ceramic wall and floor tiles with marble and the cast iron tub with a Euro-type shower; the toilet, vanity and exhaust fan/ducting were also replaced. When the ceiling was torn out Chuck noticed that a sewer standpipe that had been installed/modified in some previous remodeling on the second floor was not glued causing leaking if rain came down the pipe. They fixed that and fixed some wiring that was oddly installed. Chuck did a careful, terriffic job. He is professional, personable and knowledgeable about home remodeling. He told us each day after he finished work when he would be back the and showed up on time each time. The same was true of the guys working with him. The tile work is the best I've ever seen. When work finished they cleaned up each day and left our house livable while work was ongoing. Chuck's recommendations/suggestions on design and color when asked were right on. He is a great resouce to help in deciding on various hardware and design details.

The marble tile shower floor in the master bath was all cracked and coming up, and the bottom row of marble tiles on the wall were stained and filthy (probably from standing water since the drain was completely clogged). We brought in five companies to assess the situation and provide estimates to repair it. All of the other companies were overly concerned with matching the existing marble tiles and recommended redoing the whole shower area (at least). They claimed it would look terrible if the tiles weren't a great match, and they didn't want to do something that wouldn't look great in the end. Then Husband For A Day took a look at it and actually focused on the real problem -- the shower floor. They provided an estimate to rebuild the shower pan plus a few other tasks, and it was a fraction of what others were estimating. We were very impressed with their level-headed assessment and reasonable attitude about what should be done. Going into the work, they said they could take down the existing row of dirty wall tiles, clean them, and put them back up. We were skeptical since everyone else claimed you could never get them off without breaking them. While we hoped HFAD was right, we were expecting to need new tiles. It turned out that the wall tiles did break when coming off the wall, but luckily we found a pretty good match after a weekend of searching. (I'll note here that my wife and I had to find, pick out, purchase, and bring home all of the tiles for this project ourselves, but that was actually our preference.) The first thing they did when arriving to start work was tape down sturdy brown paper all the way up to the master bathroom to protect our wood floors and stairs. This obvious respect for our home impressed us. In fact, during the whole process, Dale, Doug, and Matt were all very pleasant and respectful. While they were working in the bathroom, another contractor cracked a marble tile in our fireplace hearth. We consulted with Dale, and he offered to fix the hearth for free (and HFAD didn't even break it)! They were also very accommodating with the grout in the kitchen. My wife and I had trouble picking the right color, and Doug changed the grout twice due to our indecisiveness, even making an extra trip to the hardware store at the end of his long day. He did this without any hint of frustration and at no additional charge. I was very impressed with their focus on customer satisfaction. When all the work was done, we were very satisfied. We noticed a few minor things that were not perfect, but considering they are a handyman service, not tiling artisans, the work was very good. Based on their quality work, quality character, and reasonable prices, I recommend Husband For A Day. Our motto is "Your Remodeler for Life", as we strive to develop a 20+ year relationship with our clients. We treat our clients' homes as we would our own. Dave Kopke founded the business in 1993 after noticing undesirable trends in the industry. He wanted to do home improvement the right way, always keeping customer satisfaction his #1 priority. After word got around, our growth has remained consistent, with about 40% of business each year coming from past customers. In 2013, we moved to a much larger facility to accommodate our increasing needs while expanding our radius of travel. Much of our staff are lifelong employees, and many of our clients no longer feel the need to "get 3 bids". We are seldom the lowest bid, but as we like to say, we are "where quality and affordability come together". Once you experience Kopke, you will never look at remodeling the same.

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts
Most marble floors last at least 25 years, and they can last forever with proper care and maintenance. As a natural stone product, they have the edge when it comes to lasting longer than synthetic or softer materials, but they can become damaged. Grit and dirt that get ground into the surface will wear away the layers of stone over time, so cleaning and routine maintenance are necessary. In particular, regular sweeping and annual polishing and sealing will keep them looking beautiful and prevent wear and damage.
Yes, provided you aren’t installing drywall over it. But you can skim coat it, apply new tile right on top, paint it, or stencil it. For more budget- and DIY-friendly options, you can install beadboard or apply decals. Just make sure that the current tiles are in good condition and prepped well for the paint or adhesive to stick.
No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.
You can let the tile sit without grout. Don’t panic if there’s a delay between installing the tiles and grouting. A substantial stoppage isn't a problem, provided you keep the tile surface clear of dust and debris. Also, avoid walking over less stable ungrouted floor tiles as they are more prone to premature cracking and shifting.
There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.
