"Literally a truckload of dirt and old insulation was removed from a crawlspace under a town house. Openings in the foundation were sealed or covered, the floor was swept clean and the crawlspace walls sprayed with insulating foam. 2-day job in tough conditions and with limited city parking, professionally and efficiently executed, indeed resulting in a perfect crawlspace. Top marks. Thanks to Greg, Jim, and the crew.

"Scott Dennison and his team at Dennison Exterior Solutions & Gutter Toppers have recently completed a roof replacement on our home. Some reasons for choosing them to do the work included: their emphasis on the importance of good ventilation for maintaining the integrity of the roof over time, that their installers are certified by the shingle manufacturer, and that the roof system comes with an impressive 50 year warranty, which stays with the house if the owner changes. We have some experience with roofing systems and during the initial meeting with them we were impressed by their knowledge, and the emphasis on roof modifications that would get the ventilation right. Other reviewers have described the process and attention to detail that was part of their experience with this company. Our experience was comparable and we are well-pleased with the exceptional experience we had with them. Luis and Patricia were the primary crew members on our job; we are grateful for their excellent work and their attention to the details. The quote from Dennison was a bit higher than others. However. the end product included a high quality installation, a competent and professional business relationship with their company and an excellent warranty. Altogether, the higher cost was more than justified for us. Without hesitation we would (and have) recommend this company to neighbors and friends."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, with a typical range of $1,500 to $3,500. The final price often depends on the attic's size, with costs generally falling between $1 to $3 per square foot. For example, insulating a 1,800-square-foot attic would likely cost between $1,800 and $5,400.

If the project involves removing old insulation, this can add an average of $900 to the total cost, bringing a full removal and reinsulation project to around $3,000.

Several factors influence the overall cost:

  • Insulation Type: Prices per square foot vary significantly by material.

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50

  • Blown-in: $1–$4

  • Batt: $2–$4

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5

  • Spray foam: $2–$5

  • Structural insulated panels (SIPs): $4–$7

  • Project Complexity: Factors like sealing air leaks, poor attic accessibility, and required inspections can add to the cost.

  • Removal Issues: The discovery of mold, asbestos, or pests during the removal of old insulation can substantially increase the price.

The R-value is a rating that measures an insulation's thermal resistance—in other words, how well it insulates. A higher R-value provides more protection for your pipes, and all pipe insulation materials should have an R-value listed on the product description or label. Each insulation type has its own R-value, which typically falls between one and five for most pipe insulation. When making a selection, Energy.gov recommends choosing a pipe wrap that is at least one inch thick, and the International Code Council (ICC) suggests choosing a material with an R-value of at least 3.

Cellulose insulation is usually made from recycled paper products, such as old newspapers, but cellulose might also contain recycled denim. While most homeowners traditionally buy cellulose insulation to use for installation, it is possible to make your own at home with old newspapers, cardboard, a paper shredder, and boric acid (important for fireproofing your cellulose insulation materials).

Yes, professionals install and upgrade insulation for all home or business areas.

Depending on the item, several different materials are beneficial for long-term storage. Bubble wrap and plastic wrap help ensure delicate ceramics or furniture are safe and secure. High-quality moving boxes made of durable materials like plastic also help ensure the longevity of your storage, as cardboard will degrade faster over time.
