"They did beautiful work on my bathroom. I had several cracks in my tile floor due to rotted wood and they tore everything out and redid it in no time and at a much lower quote and were very flexible. He also came in right at quoted cost with no overages or job delays. They were also very mindful of my cat and making sure he didn’t get out of the house. I highly recommend Mr Backsplash for bathroom/kitchen work!"

"Anthony and his partner were very pleasant and professional. Several outlets in my dining room and adjoining living room were not working. That problem was quickly resolved. Upstairs in one of the bedrooms another outlet was also not working. They discovered that a piece of the outlet had broken. While replacing the outlet they also realized that it had no ground wire. After replacing the outlet, they added a ground wire. The outlet was tested to make sure it was safely grounded. The handymen explained that the yellow lights on the receptacle detector showed that the new outlet was grounded. I learned that a red and green light would mean that the outlet had no ground wire. I had no idea that the outlet behind my desk had no ground wire. That could have caused a fire. They also installed a ceiling light fixture. I am quite satisfied with their work and their prompt response."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

On average, tiling a shower costs between $1,800 and $5,000, with most people paying around $2,700. The price of this project depends on multiple factors, including the kind of tile you choose, the size of your shower, and labor rates in your area. If you decide to tile your own shower (instead of hiring a professional), it’ll likely cost $800 to $1,400.

Glass tile can cost as much as or more than other durable tile types. When choosing the right tile for you, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each can help you make an informed decision. The pros and cons of glass tile include:

Pros

  • Light-reflecting to add brightness

  • Waterproof and mold-resistant

  • Made from recyclable materials

Cons

  • High cost compared to similar and more durable materials

  • Usually requires professional installation

  • More easily scratched compared to materials like ceramic and porcelain

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.

Phone jack installation can be a complicated project that requires cutting holes into just the right location in the wall and running delicate wiring. This sort of job is best left to the professionals.

Updating your backsplash without removing the tile is possible in a couple of different ways. First, you can remove the old grout and replace it with new grout to give your backsplash a fresh look. You can also change the grout color, which can have a surprisingly large impact on the final appearance of the backsplash. Finally, you can paint the original tile to totally change the look of the backsplash without removing it.
