"I bought a house in Fraser and came to find out I had very high energy bills and 2 inches of insulation. Tom from Dana Insulation came out and guaranteed a minimum of a 20% energy and gas bill reduction. He said realistically it will be 25-35% by getting their attic insulation. The day of the job the crew showed up on time and took a look around. They came unprepared and had to go back to their shop "15min away". A few hours later they came back and got set up. They kept calling their office asking questions unsure what and where they were putting the insulation. Shortly after starting they went and sat in their truck or paced up and down the sidewalk on the phone. I assume it was their lunch but I was unsure since they were constantly on their phones. After their break they got 2-3 hours of work in before deciding to call it for the day. At some point during that time the owner arrived sat in his truck and left. He didn't come into the house or greet me. They vacuumed and left. There was a lot of insulation left in the house and rusty staples throughout the house, porch, and driveway (ballpark of 50+). My 1yr old handed me one so I called the company and complained. At the start of day 2 the contractors were stumped on how to add insulation to the attic above our extra bedroom. So they sat in their truck or on the phone for the first 2 hours trying to figure it out. The owner called me and said they were going to pop a vent off the roof and replace it with a new one and he would stop by when they finished and check everything. So they popped off the vent and just filled in insulation hoping for the best. It was very unprofessional. I found out at the end because I asked that they didn't replace it and were not told to do so. One of the contractors got stuck in the small attic door entrance. They were screaming, swearing and panicking. We rushed over to help them while the other contractor was outside on their phone. Shortly after their blower broke down and they had to wait for repairs. There was only a few hours of work done and they said the job was finished. The owner DID NOT come and inspect their work. The contractors asking for help from the office all day. They also left more insulation and staples all over my driveway. The owner scheduled a time to come take a look but no call no showed. I reached out to Tom multiple times over my rebate but he would brush me off to someone else. I was asked 2 times over email and one time on phone for simple information for it that they somehow kept loosing it? I reached out to Tom months later with my bills showing him nothing has changed like he guaranteed would by spending all of this money on attic insulation. I also mentioned I had not received my rebate which was well past the window. The owner called me and said that he reviewed the bills and checked online where I was last year. He agreed they were way to high and that the insulation didn't do what it should of. He scheduled a time to come out and look at what was going on. Again he was a no call no show. I got a hold of him again and he apologized. He said he was going to bring out a heat gun along with more measurement equipment. He was going to test all of the walls, ceilings, attic, furnace, AC, and vents. I asked why they didn't do this from the start and he said they only do it when there is a problem. This seems backwards to me. We scheduled another time and he no call no showed yet again."

I've always been a "Green Energy" person. I built and live in a underground earth sheltered Dome. Using only solar energy and a fireplace to heat my home in the winter and I don't have an air-conditioning unit. This passion for our environment led me to the insulation business. Makes me feel blessed to save my customers money on their heating and cooling bills. Saving our energy, saves our planet!

"They were neat and courteous and finished the job in a day."

"Would not recommend. During a schedule inspection Field Inspector Charles urinated all over my first floor restroom, so much that the mass fluid traveled through the plumbing cutout under the sink cabinet, running down the drywall and pooling on the floor. Mr. Colston denied the incident when I confronted him, not knowing that I had already reviewed the security footage of him talking to a FSM staff on speaker phone in my front yard! The amount of discharge the accumulated on two floors would suggest that this wasn’t just an unfortunate accident. FSM’s official response is that this is a “training opportunity” for their staff."

Drywall insulation services FAQs

On average, drywall installation costs $2,000, depending on the size, complexity, accessibility, and location of the job. The typical cost range is from about $400 to $6,000, which includes materials and labor. Additional cost factors include the thickness of the drywall, the shape and height of the room, and the level of finish. The level of finish ranges from only hanging the drywall to taping and mudding the seams between panels to painting the walls.

The best type of insulation for your home depends on what you need, so the answer will depend on your specific situation. If you’re building a house, structural panels are easy to install during the building process in addition to being the most energy efficient type. If you live in a warm climate, reflective insulation may benefit you more as it costs less than other insulation types. And for standard attics, loose-fill, spray foam, or blown-in insulation work well.

If you plan to heat or cool your garage, you’ll need to insulate the garage ceiling. Insulating your garage ceiling will make your garage much more energy efficient and save on heating and cooling costs. Not only does insulation make your garage more energy efficient, it helps reduce noise and can extend the life of your garage roof. You can use fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool, or spray foam insulation for this project.

The cost to skim coat drywall is $1.15 to $1.35 per square foot. Most of the cost is labor, for the necessary skills to apply the skim coat with precision using high-quality tools. This is a job better left to the professionals for the best outcomes.

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the insulation type, amount, and your attic’s accessibility. Additional cost factors include sealing air leaks, removal or replacement of insulation, and inspections. Types of insulation include:

  • Blown-in: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Spray foam: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Batt: $2–$4 per square foot

  • Structural insulated panels: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50 per square foot
