"I am very pleased with SKM maintenance who showed me what they were made of when things got tight. Professionalism, Proficiency and Efficiency. I knew I had a tight deadline to meet. My deck was scheduled for staining at the end of the week but had structural damage that needed repair. From the moment I spoke to Linda the office manager, I was hopeful as she set the tone of the company and pleasantly gave me a brief outline of the process of getting an estimation. Within a day, Doug, one of the owners, was at my home evaluating the deck. I was impressed when he pointed out a few areas that needed to be corrected (that I didn’t recognize) and offered some solid suggestions. Furthermore, when I mentioned “the deadline “he didn’t flinch and stated they had an ample workforce…. Hmm. Once he left, I had a detailed written estimate with a very reasonable price!! But then life hits…. The next day scheduled for the repair to begin, it rained. Unfortunately, the day after that the repair person had a family emergency and couldn’t come. That’s when the calls started coming from Linda and Doug and arrangements were being made and within an hour another person was coming out to do the repair. Although it was cloudy … Paul showed up and said let’s see what happens…. He made his assessment, discussed the plan with me, went and picked up the material and within a couple of hours my deck was brand new!!! SKM Maintenance proved to be such an exemplary service provider, offering an experience that left me completely satisfied. Their ability to manage unforeseen obstacles reflected their commitment to client care, and their attention to detail transformed my deck into a space that feels brand new. The skills and professionalism shown by all the staff of SKM were impressive, such that I have already initiated a second project Thank you SKM!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Built to Last Construction was recommended to my husband and me by his brother. They remodeled my bother-in law's kitchen and built him a beautiful deck, which is featured on their website at https://www.b2lconstruction.com. We hired them to remodel our kitchen. It turned out beautiful. Tom even built pull out drawers for my cupboard panty and added a heat vent along the floor. The extra time and detail they took to get it just right was amazing. I recommended them to a friend who is keeping them busy with projects at her home. My friend recommended them to someone else who has had a hard time finding someone to update her deck. She will not be disappointed."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

With proper installation and maintenance, a vinyl deck can last up to 30 years. Factors like regular cleaning, minimal wear and tear, proper installation, and the use of higher-grade materials can extend its durability. However, extreme weather conditions or neglecting maintenance might shorten its lifespan. Adhering to manufacturer recommendations for care and occasional inspections can significantly prolong a vinyl deck's longevity.

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

In many areas, a floating deck that isn’t connected to your home and stays under 200 square feet and below 30 inches in height may not need a permit. These freestanding structures are often considered low-risk, which can simplify the building process. However, building codes vary greatly based on location. Before investing in any home improvement project, check with your local permitting office for deck-building guidelines.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.
