"So I paid over $30,000 for my system about 3 years ago. All they talked about was how great this comprehensive warranty that they gave me was for 10 years and that I wouldn't have to pay for any repairs except regular maintenance... 3 years in and these garbage Tekmar thermostats suck. The one in my master bedroom always resets after a power outage or some event outside of my control. The other ones struggle to pick up wifi or error out randomly. Up until now, they have come out and fixed things. Last visit they charged me $99.00 bucks to configure this piece of crap and didn't tell me there was a charge until after the appointment. Turns out that the warranty is not that great and essentially covers nothing. For that same price I should have gotten a full system tune up. I called them trying to work something out and they flat out said no, but we can come back out and tune up your system for $240.00. The guy literally touched a couple buttons on my thermostat that I don't have access too because it's in some locked tech tools and configured it. I just feel like that should not happen. When you unplug something, you should be able to plug it in and have it work, not reinvent the wheel each time."

R-value is calculated by dividing the thickness of an insulation material by its thermal conductivity. The material's composition and density influence thermal conductivity. Materials with lower conductivity values provide better insulation. The higher the R-value, the better the material is at insulating, helping homeowners select insulation that meets the energy needs of their climate and home layout.

Audits include inspecting insulation, HVAC systems, windows, and appliances to identify energy inefficiencies.

When combined with a substantial solar system, if you have enough Powerwalls, you could go off-grid and be energy independent. But remember, you'd need enough Powerwalls to power your whole home continuously because a single Powerwall can’t power large appliances for extended periods. One Powerwall is able to power an average-sized home's emergency circuits, lights, and outlets. To power large appliances, you likely need two or three Powerwalls.

A good SEER rating is between 15 and 20. However, if you want the best possible efficiency, look for HVAC units with a SEER rating higher than 21.
