"So I paid over $30,000 for my system about 3 years ago. All they talked about was how great this comprehensive warranty that they gave me was for 10 years and that I wouldn't have to pay for any repairs except regular maintenance... 3 years in and these garbage Tekmar thermostats suck. The one in my master bedroom always resets after a power outage or some event outside of my control. The other ones struggle to pick up wifi or error out randomly. Up until now, they have come out and fixed things. Last visit they charged me $99.00 bucks to configure this piece of crap and didn't tell me there was a charge until after the appointment. Turns out that the warranty is not that great and essentially covers nothing. For that same price I should have gotten a full system tune up. I called them trying to work something out and they flat out said no, but we can come back out and tune up your system for $240.00. The guy literally touched a couple buttons on my thermostat that I don't have access too because it's in some locked tech tools and configured it. I just feel like that should not happen. When you unplug something, you should be able to plug it in and have it work, not reinvent the wheel each time."

If you install LED bulbs, they will use much less energy than incandescent bulbs. LED light strips also use less power. Battery-operated puck lights use no electricity at all, but you will need to replace the batteries as needed. They are beneficial if your power goes out, too, as they will remain on as a light source. 

A good SEER rating is between 15 and 20. However, if you want the best possible efficiency, look for HVAC units with a SEER rating higher than 21. Keep in mind that the SEER rating doesn’t mean that the unit will reach that efficiency all the time, but it does have the capacity to operate at that high of an efficiency level.

An average, 400-square-foot electric heated driveways consume approximately $3 per hour in terms of electricity. The price may slightly fluctuate depending on your local energy cost. A simple formula to calculate your heated driveway’s total wattage consumption is by multiplying the square footage by 50 watts and then dividing it by 1,000 to get the kilowatt number. Multiply that with your local energy cost per hour and there you have the hourly operating cost.

There is no blanket figure for a residential home’s electrical load, since load varies by the size of the home, how many appliances are used, and the efficiency of their electrical systems. Typically, however, it’s safe to assume 40 to 60 amps is the average electrical load of a residential home.
