"It went very smoothly from first contact through job execution. Some neighbors had recommended them as a previous contractor never did the fencing job he had promised. In the end, they were less costly and did a fantastic job."

"The fence is sturdy and beautiful.  Horizon Fence Company made this fence which I chose for aesthetic value as well as ability for it to last without much, if any, maintenance.   The owner was responsive throughout and courteous, made an appointment to measure and show pictures of offered styles.  Horizon was competitve in pricing (obtained more than one quote), and up front about expected timing before the fence would be installed.  The company wanted a deposit (approximately 1/3 of cost), but did not require the balance of payment until the job was complete, as the owner communicated he wanted the customer to be happy.  Horizon also directed me to make sure there were no underground obstacles with the proper utilities.  The price was not inexpensive, but the cost was in line with what is paid for the material and quality of work - appreciated the personalized touches such as an estate rail option.  When placing the fence, they inquired how I wanted it to look when placement complete.  It is a beautiful fence, all who have seen it agree.  Right away friends and neighbors commented how great it looks.  I am very pleased with it and it adds to the property.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

The lifespan of a fence can range from 5 to 50 years, depending heavily on the material, local climate, and how well it is maintained. For example, a wooden fence might last 7 to 15 years, while a vinyl fence typically lasts 20 to 30 years. Metal, composite, and glass fences have some of the longest lifespans. Proper maintenance, such as regular cleaning, inspections, and staining or sealing for wood, is key to extending the life of any fence material. Vinyl and composite are durable options that don't require sealing.

Rust, bent panels, loose posts, and broken welds often require repair.

Retaining walls offer more value to a home if they also divert water, prevent erosion, or help support a foundation. The ROI of a retaining wall is between 100% and 200%.

Both fences and walls can increase your home’s value, but you’ll spend significantly more on a wall than you would on a fence. A stone wall costs approximately $5,000, a retaining wall costs $6,100, and a fence costs $3,200 on average to put prices in perspective.

The average lifespan of a wood fence is 15 to 20 years, but some can last for 40 years or more depending on several factors. The type of wood is crucial; for example, untreated pine may only last 5 to 10 years, while pressure-treated pine can last up to 20 years, and cedar's natural resistance can extend its life to 40 years. Other factors include local weather conditions, with wet and windy climates causing faster deterioration, and the quality of maintenance. Higher-end wood, metal posts, and privacy fence styles also tend to last longer.
