"My driveway was completed today and I am very happy! I highly recommend this company. Great communication and professionalism. I am the second person in my neighborhood to hire John and the house across from me has gotten an estimate. We are making the other driveways look bad. :)"

"They were lengthening my Driveway. They had done the driveway 4 years ago and had done a very good job. I rehired then to extend the driveway. In the process the machines they used damage the old Driveway. They did not tell my wife who was at home or contacted me to tell me. This upset me more than the damage did. I had to text him/ email email him. He did say he would repair and seal coat the driveway. He has partially repaired the driveway, they missed one spot. He is to return in week or two and seal the Driveway. If the damage had not happen I would have given 5 stars"

"Leo and team replaced our driveway, installed a patio, and built a retaining wall with an enclosed fence. They were on time, worked incredibly hard, and did a great job. He was flexible, understood our needs and overall a very nice guy. Highly recommend."

"Chris did an excellent job! I got many different quotes through companies from Google and HomeAdvisor but felt Chris could do the job the best. He took out an old walkway, built a new walkway down a different area in my front yard then added a new retaining wall and granite steps from my driveway to my front door. He also put in a circle kit near my front door and put in a granite mailbox post. Everything came out perfect! Chris is a very hard worker, great communicator and I am very satisfied with the work he did. I would hire him again!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In the Wells area, you can find several types of contractors for asphalt paving. These include large regional companies that serve all of York County, smaller residential driveway specialists, and commercial contractors focused on business districts. You will also find coastal specialists experienced with saltwater exposure and seasonal specialists who concentrate their work during the peak May to October paving season in Maine.

Helpful?

Before starting asphalt paving in Wells, contact the Code Enforcement office for driveway permits and check if your home is in a historic district. You must also call Dig Safe (811) to mark utility lines at least 72 hours in advance. If your property is near protected zones, have wetlands delineated. Planning your project for the May-October paving season helps avoid weather-related delays and ensures a quality result.

Helpful?

A correctly completed asphalt paving project in Wells will show several key indicators. The surface should have a proper crown for drainage, with no standing water after rainfall. It must have a compacted gravel base of at least 8 to 12 inches to handle Maine's frost cycles. Look for smooth, well-compacted surfaces with no soft spots, neat edges, and a uniform thickness of 2 to 3 inches.

Helpful?

In Wells, your home's layout can complicate an asphalt paving project if you have certain features. Steep driveways common on coastal properties require specialized grading, while narrow lots near Wells Beach may limit equipment access. Proximity to protected wetlands or designated historic districts also introduces permit requirements and potential delays. High water tables can affect drainage planning, making proper site preparation essential for a lasting surface.

Helpful?

The current state of your property is critical for asphalt paving decisions in ME. Harsh winters often cause frost heave damage, requiring a deeper gravel base than in warmer climates. For homes near the coast, contractors must assess for salt damage and sand infiltration. Wells' sandy soil may also need extra stabilization, and existing tree roots or shallow utility lines will influence the project's scope and approach.
