At Blakely Fence and Forge we pride ourselves on delivering high quality work, done timely at reasonable rates. My family has served this state for generations and now its our turn to offer superior workmanship to our neighbors. Whatever your need in fencing and metal work, we have you covered, no job too big, too small, or too complex, we wont stop until you are 100 percent satisfied.

"Top notch! It was a complicated day. Many workers in a small area. Blake focused on getting a lovely wooden fence completed with many feet and trucks shuffling around a small area. He remained congenial and flexible with the whole crowd working. And the fence was complete with all the hardware I requested. I highly recommend him."

"We Hired Erik 2 weeks ago & our experience has been absolutely horrific. I could write a novel on our experience but I’ll keep it short & stick to relevant information. He does not even file for the proper permits to do the work he claims he can do. My town has already filed a report with the state. He has a long history of this behavior dating back to him moving to Maine from the south where he had another business under a different name. We were extremely lucky to have surveillance in our home & to know our legal rights because not only did he not finish the work & leave us with a huge mess, not to mention more work done than we initially needed… he tried to call CPS & filed a fraudulent report so that it would look like we would be retaliating when we filed for breach of contract. He didn’t stop there. He tried making it look like I was coming on to him & asking for work in exchange for sexual favors when I asked him if he was going to honor his contract. He hasn’t responded to me ever since I let him know I have video surveillance. He did this to a single mom with two special needs kids. Please protect yourself."

"From the initial contact for an estimate and all the way through the completion of the project, Mike and his excellent crew kept me informed of the progress, alerted me if there were going to be delays(weather related) and offered solutions to unexpected issues that arose and promptly corrected them. Very professional and courteous throughout the project. Impressed with the quality of the work done and also how clean they left the worksite. Disposed of the waste generated promptly after the work was completed I would not hesitate to hire Willard Square Home Repair for future repairs needed around my home. "Hazelwood Handyman was amazing. They were on time, did a great job and came in at the estimated price. One thin guy moved a frig that weighs at least 800 pds- it took 4 movers to put it in place when installed. I was amazed! Highly recommended."

Fix-It Man is RRP (Renovation, Repair, and Painting) Certified by EPA as well as Maine Weatherization tech certified. The owner, Vincent Veligor is also a Licensed Construction Superintendent. After contacting us, we’ll set up a “meet and greet” to get acquainted and review the project and provide an estimate of the time or cost. For bigger projects, we ask that you sign a contract and in some cases where there are significant material costs or special order items, we require an up-front payment. For longer projects we may do interim invoicing; otherwise we bill for the project when it is complete and we request that you pay us upon receipt of the invoice.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Fences last anywhere from 10 to 50 years. Metal and glass fences have some of the longest lifespans, while wooden fences have one of the shortest lifespans, lasting around 15 years on average. Vinyl fences last somewhere in between, at around 20 to 30 years. You can extend the life of your fence by taking good care of it. Routine maintenance, like inspecting the fence, cleaning it, and repairing any sections that need it can go a long way.

Most homeowners don't need to inform their neighbors before constructing a fence, according to the law, but you will need to make sure that you’re building on the property line or on your side of the property line. Otherwise, the neighbor could complain, which would require you to tear down and reinstall the fence. In any case, keeping them in the loop is the neighborly thing to do!

Whether you inform your neighbors or not, always use property records and a land survey to ensure your fence stays within your property boundaries.

In addition to the fence itself, several factors can impact the overall price of putting a fence in. Consider these add-ons and necessary expenses when building your project budget. For example, additional cost factors may include:

  • Removing your existing fence

  • Land leveling and other site work

  • Tree and stump removal

  • New landscaping

  • Working around underground utilities

  • Painting and staining

This depends mainly on how well the posts were installed and what type of wood was used to build the gate in the first place. Softwoods have a life expectancy of up to 15 years but can last slightly longer with regular maintenance and waterproofing treatments. By contrast, hardwoods can last up to 30 years with little care, so you may avoid costly replacements by spending a little more upfront.

The best under-gate dog barrier is one that extends to the ground. This effectively keeps dogs in and won't give them room to squeeze through. However, dogs that dig can still get under the barrier. Deter digging by paving the ground beneath the gate or filling it in with rocks or gravel. Be careful using wire to extend dog gates, as the sharp ends may cut or hurt your dog's paws.
