"I needed my toilet cleared out to work properly. I tried to take care of it myself, but as anyone could tell you that I am definitely not a plumber. So, I needed to hire a professional to do the job. The job was done immediately and the bill was very reasonable. Anytime I even think about any plumbing work, I know who to call."

"We called in desperation.  A quick trip to our son's house to fix a troublesome furnace and soon we hear the sound of water running.  That sinking feeling when you discover it is the main water pipe to the house, spewing many many gallons of water and having formed a very large sink hole in the back yard.  He arrived within two hours of our call.  Had it fixed quickly.  Given the amount of snow and mud on the ground, this was the wrong time of year for such a repair!  He was extremely responsive, professional, courteous.  Will definitely use him for all our well needs going forward!

"I spoke Big Wave on the phone ans explained my problem (basement bathroom pump). He said he would get back to me, which he did when he stated he would. The upshot was- he had researched my problem and over the phone told me how to fix it myself. No charge, courteous, friendly, and prompt! Call this business for your plumbing issues. Terrific. 10 stars!!!!"

"So I live in a older house (1947) so the plumbing is older too. Anytime I used my sink dishwasher or laundry the water would all but flood my basement making it almost unusable. I called and talked to Seth he was able to get to my home the next day and diagnose the problem my pipes in the concrete were old and clogged beyond repair well he managed to completely redo all of my plumbing brand new and have it up and running in a matter of a few hours! I now have a dry usable basement. He gave me a very decent price as well! Now hopefully I don't need another plumber anytime soon but if I do I'm calling seth at SWB!"

"I had previously worked with Clear Choice to have gutters done, and they reached out to see if I needed any other work done since they had promotions for previous customers, and I needed to have my primary access door replaced. They had someone out the next day to review options. They were very knowledgeable, providing clear explanations about the types, costs and process that would go into an install, and allowing me to fine tune the design with their tools. My wife and I were able to confirm about the costs and though we could afford it up front, we opted to use the finance option to spread the cost over the next year, since there's no monthly minimums as long as it is paid by the end date. When the project was scheduled, a storm actually occurred that day, but the team was very clear about coming back the next available day, and kept in constant communication. They called the next morning, confirmed it would still work for my schedule, and were there on time and with everything ready to go. The construction went very smoothly, and they made sure to clean up the workspace fully when they were done. The door looks and feels great in the home, without any of the issues the old one had with not sealing properly or latching correctly, and their work on the doorframe is excellent."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Burying underground lines below the deep 48-to-60-inch frost line in ME is essential to prevent freeze failures. Soil conditions also play a huge role, as local clay shifts heavily during freeze-thaw cycles. You must account for water quality too, since hard municipal water causes scale buildup, while acidic well water corrodes copper pipes. Always secure proper permits, as official inspections catch installation errors and guarantee long-lasting plumbing.

Helpful?

Test your well water for radon, arsenic, and bacteria to protect your household, as ME has elevated levels of these contaminants. If you live in an older home, test for lead before disturbing any pipes. During winter projects, secure alternative water access, as exposed pipes freeze rapidly. Always obtain required permits and inspections to guarantee your updated plumbing meets all strict health and safety standards.

Helpful?

Purely cosmetic updates like swapping a faucet do not require a permit, while functional changes like relocating supply lines demand official approval. In older Gorham homes, opening walls for aesthetic upgrades exposes failing cast iron pipes that require immediate replacement. Additionally, functional repairs are urgent during winter to prevent freezing, whereas cosmetic plumbing tasks can wait. Address underlying hard water issues first to prevent recurring fixture stains.

Helpful?

Start by locating your main water shutoff valve before winter hard freezes arrive in Gorham. You must know whether you rely on municipal water or a private well, as this dictates your next steps. For any issues near the water meter, contact the water district directly. Avoid snaking slow drains during spring thaws, as frost heave shifts underground lines and requires a licensed professional to resolve safely.

Helpful?

Identify your water source and whether your Gorham property uses a municipal sewer or a private septic system. Note your home’s construction year, as older houses hide outdated lead or cast iron pipes. You should also evaluate your basement type, since crawl spaces face severe freezing risks. Finally, review your property’s permit history to understand past additions before starting any new plumbing modifications.
