"K&A were quick to respond to my inquiry. They got a clear understanding of the job and provided a fair estimate in a timely manner. They were able to accommodate our timing for have the work done. On the day of installation they weee on time, worked diligently and incredibly polite, friendly and professional. The work they performed was top quality including maintaining a neat job site. "There isn't much to say because everything went so smoothly.  The workers appeared promptly each morning and put in a full day of work.  No days were lost for the crew to go to another job site.  At the end of each day, things were tidied up and waste was either removed or piled neatly for later disposal.  The crew was polite, friendly, and professional.  These are the little things that help the customer feel relaxed and confident.
The biggest obstacle was the removal of thick concrete retaining walls that were leaning in toward the walkway.  This was handled skillfully with the use of proper equipment.  Everything else flowed smoothly and quickly, yielding results that exceeded my vision of the finished improvements.  Only one day of work was lost due to heavy rain that made my yard too muddy for heavy equipment. Once the drainage work was complete, I no longer had this problem.
The job was completed on time at a fair price.  When called back to replace a piece of railing that cracked, the owner came the next day and replaced the connector - with a smile and obvious pride in his work.

"L&B Services did a tear down and rebuild of an old deck. They really know how to build a solid deck with poured cement footings, sauna tubes, and sturdy lumber. Bob was very good at keeping us informed of the work to be done and the timeline. The deck was done on time. It is a large deck (30x12) with 3 sets of stairs, dog gates, and skirting. The end result was a sturdy deck that will last for decades. Very easy and personable group to work with."

"We had a pretty big project, removing an old camp roof and building a new roof rotated 90 degrees, and adding a loft area. We were very happy with Andrew and his crew. They really go the extra mile to make sure everything is done right - they don't cut corners and take pride in their work. They installed new windows in the front and even used Windex to wipe off their finger smudges! Price was very good, and they're good, honest guys to work with. Very pleased!"

"Josh was great to work with. He was very responsive, fair and followed through on exactly what was needed (drywall finishing) under a tight deadline (with a tenant about to move in) and with a great attitude and attention to detail. There was an additional job (building a firewall in the attic- not the best of conditions) which he took on even though it meant adjusting his schedule. I would recommend Josh as a skilled and reliable contractor with a great work ethic and positive can do attitude."

"Greg & his crew were very professional. Greg communicated exactly what the cost and date of completion would be. He updated us on a regular basis on how the project was moving along and finished ahead of schedule. I would highly recommend Innovation construction for your home project. We look forward to using Greg again on our next renovation. Tom & Denise Rooney - Bath, ME"

Barndominium Builders questions, answered by experts

Adding an extension or addition to your home costs more than a loft conversion in all but the rarest cases where the home's structural integrity is lacking. Because a home addition requires a new foundation section or significant structural upgrades to handle a cantilevered portion, the cost compared to almost any loft conversion is significantly greater for the same square footage.

If you can’t repair and repurpose your shed, it might be possible to sell it, donate it, or salvage parts rather than them just ending up in a landfill. Professional junk removal services will advise you on what can and will be recycled. You may also want to keep some parts to upcycle them for other projects around your home. Turning planks from your memory-filled wooden shed into a coffee table or bed headboard is good for the environment and the soul.

A simple A-frame chicken coop can take as little as three hours to build, but a more substantial all-in-one coop to house a large flock can take four or five days to build. Consult a local handyperson or custom coop builder for a time estimate based on the specific details of your project.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.
