Closet America is a privately owned and locally operated manufacturer and installer of custom home organization systems for closets, home offices, pantries, media centers, and garages. By raising the standards for quality and customer service, Closet America has steadily grown into one of the premier names in the professional organizing systems industry. We have been consistently awarded the prestigious GuildMaster Award for exceptional customer service and satisfaction.

"Excellent service overall! The in-home design consultation was very smooth and helpful, and while the pricing was a bit more than we were budgeting for, we believe the investment in upgrading our closet spaces (7 in total!) will be well worth it. The removal of the old closets and patching work was all completed in a single day, and then the installation occurred the very next day. We're very excited to have a whole bunch of new closets to enjoy!"

That is the question that many of our clients, both residential and commercial, often ask. How do you make this decision? For most clients, cost is definitely a factor. However, quality, design, fit as well as sentimental value should all be considered as well. When comparing the value of reupholstering to buying new, keep in mind that reupholstering offers you the same quality for a comparable or lower cost than buying new . Today’s market is flooded with disposable furniture.. .furniture that is made to look good but physically lasts only a few years only to be thrown away. A well-made piece should, with normal wear and tear, last you 10 to 20 years with minimal care, either in the commercial or residential furniture market. As the home of Maryland’s finest time-tested craftsmen, we are carefully attending to each and every piece that is entrusted to our care. Each piece that enters of our shop, no matter what its condition, is stripped down to its frame. At this time, all necessary frame repairs are made, the springs are 8-way hand-tied, and all cotton and foam are replaced. Upholstering is an art, and we take great pride in our work. For our commercial customer, with proper set-up, we can often provide same day or next-day service. This offers you as little down time as possible to your business. No empty tables while chairs and booths get a face-lift. You can have your office chair reupholstered while you are on vacation. We can even pick up your lobby furniture while your lobby is painted, giving you a fresh new look to some worn or dated pieces. Call us for an on-site consultation! We can help you in evaluating your upholstering needs as well as window treatments, space planning, custom-made furniture and refinishing. We offer thousand of fabric selections from silks to leathers and everything in between... let us help you chose the perfect one for you! Clifton Upholstering and Design, Inc. is a family run business offering you three generations of experience and expertise. As Baltimore’s oldest and largest upholstering company, it has been serving Baltimore and it’s surrounding area since 1915. Additional contact name - Karen Miranda. "After shopping for barrel chairs I found that to replace my 2 chairs in the same quality was extremely expensive. As I felt the bones of the chairs were in excellent shape but the upholstery was old and tattered, I decided to find out how much reupholstering would cost. I called Clifton Upholstery and they responded immediately. After talking to Bob on the phone, he came to my home and presented material samples in the color choices I had asked for. The materials he presented were very high quality. I also decided to have him give me estimates on 4 cafe chairs and an office arm chair. After accepting his pricing on all, Clifton Upholstery came and picked up the chairs and the work was done and returned in a comfortable time frame (about 3 weeks). The quality of work exceeded my expectations and I am very happy with the results. If you have quality furniture that can be refurbished, it can be very cost effective and smart to do so. Call Bob at Clifton Upholstery. They are professional and provide quality work and I highly recommend them."

As of July 2016, the owners of Tropea Restoration, brothers Joe & Lou Marchese, divided their company in preparation for transitioning into the next generation. Joe Marchese and his son Paul remain Tropea Restoration ; Lou Marchese and his restoration team are now Marchese Restoration. Both companies continue to provide stellar restoration services to the Baltimore area. .

"I gave Marchese one star only because the job was mostly completed. The experience was horrible. Workers were rude and never on time; work was halted when workers were sent to another job; walls were damaged by improper tile removal (pounding on tile); workers washed tools in bathroom sink, clogging it, and bathtub; fixtures "disappeared" or were damaged; tile was installed outside shower where it should not have been; bullnose wasn't used (just grout and plastic); ceiling was damaged when tape was removed; and finally the company refused to "sister" a water-soaked ceiling beam. For this the insurance company paid them an extraordinary amount of money. I am still dealing with the fallout--two bathrooms and a ceiling that need repair and painting, which I would not let Marchese do because of the awful attitude of the workers and questions about their competence; and plumbing problems that have yet to be entirely resolved. Throughout the project both workers and the project manager lied to me so often that I felt I was being gaslighted. I have told Marchese that if any aspect of their work causes future problems, I will simply notify the MHIC. I kept photos of the damage and copies of my e-mails documenting the ongoing issues. I would never recommend this company to anyone."

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

When water penetrates wood, the wood swells, causing the wood and veneer to separate. This separation creates bubbles on the surface of your furniture. If water spills on wood veneer, it needs to be dried ASAP. Surface spills can cause minor damages like white spots and blushing, but if you’re slow to action, you’re looking at more work—and spending—to restore your wood veneer.

It can take as little as 30 to 60 minutes for wood filler to dry, but some products take up to four hours. Always read labels to ensure you're following the manufacturer’s instructions. Water-based wood fillers typically take longer to dry than oil-based or epoxy-wood fillers, especially when applied to large areas or deep cracks. Wood putty won’t dry completely, remaining slightly pliable.

The difference between resurfacing and refinishing is that refinishing only works on solid surfaces that are in good condition, whereas resurfacing will restore a cracked or worn surface to its original, blemish-free state. Refinishing will leave you with a smooth and glossy surface you can’t get from resurfacing alone. If that’s the look you’re going for, contact a local concrete finishing contractor to achieve it.

Minor water damage on wood tables can be reversed fairly easily. You can remove stains and light surface damage with a sandblock, then repaint and re-varnish the wood surface. For swollen and rotten wood, you can cut away the damaged parts and use a wood filler as long as the affected area isn’t too much.

This depends on the furniture. It’s certainly fine for wood, metal, or composite materials to get wet. The same cannot be said for affiliated cushions and coverings. Many of these adjacent items claim to be water-resistant, but poorly-made accessories take longer to dry, leaving plenty of time for mold to grow. Keep an eye on how your furniture stands up to rain before going in with a pressure washer.
