J. W. Calvert Mfg. Co., Inc. has delivered top quality products, workmanship and excellent customer service at the best price in the Baltimore and surrounding city areas for more than 57 years. We really care about our work and tend to every customer's needs. Give us a call today!

"Mike Calvert responded to my request for information. I met with him and he explained the whole process to me. He was personable and extremely knowledgeable. Their product was exactly what I was looking for. I decided to go with J. W. Calvert Mfg. Mike went back to the office and sent me a drawing of the railing in place, on a picture of my house. I sent the picture and the Calvert Website to my HOA. They approved the railing very quickly. I contacted Mike and he came over with the contract on a Wednesday and he set up for the installation to be done that Friday. Brian arrived promptly at 9 AM that Friday. He was also very personable and knowledgeable. I knew that the installation would be completed in 1 day. Imagine my surprise when just after 12 noon; Brian knocked on my door to let me know he was finished. My railing looked amazing and Brian left no trace of debris from the installation. Mike and Brian were both fabulous. What a great experience!"

Wrought Iron questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small sections. Professional installation ensures proper alignment and durability for larger projects.

The depth of the fence posts depends on the height of your fence. If you’re installing a 6-foot fence, then digging 2-foot-deep holes for the fence posts will help ensure a secure installation. However, if you’re installing an 8-foot fence, the posts will need to be deeper than 2 feet to support the structure properly. Also, consider how far apart the fence posts should be to provide adequate support.

Fence pickets typically face out (away from your home or the garden that you're enclosing). Both the rails and pickets sit on the outside of a fence so that anyone passing by can see the finished side. Not only does the look increase your curb appeal, but it's also the neighborly thing to do when placing a barrier between two properties, even when you're installing a privacy fence.

Mesh and tempered glass are both very safe pool fencing options because they’re difficult to climb. You might also want to consider installing a pool safety net, and always make sure your pool is maintained properly. You could even consider a swimming pool enclosure that surrounds the pool on all sides.

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.
