"I wanted to move my piano into climate-controlled storage while I was having new flooring installed in my home, so I found Johnson’s Piano Moving based on their excellent online reviews. Ted from Johnson’s worked with me to have my piano moved into their climate-controlled storage for a week during the installation. My house has a side entrance which made the move pretty challenging, but the excellent crews who moved the piano out and back in were very creative in accommodating the challenge with the front door and they took great care not to damage my railings on the stoop. I highly recommend Johnson’s Piano Moving!"

"Red carpet movers showed up on time and ready to work. We moved 2 pianos and with each one they were careful and prepared each piano by removing necessary parts and wrapping the piano for protection."

"Review VKH Movers 5/1/2020 We very much appreciate Vlad and our moving crew from VKH. Vlad was the most prompt and professional of all the moving companies I contacted (about 6 different companies). He was very easy to talk with as we worked through the entire quote process. Our crew was professional and careful and communicated well throughout. They arrived on time and worked very hard the entire time. We own a studio piano that we’ve had for about 30 years but still looks new. We’ve had it moved several times over the years, but no company was as careful as VKH. They wrapped it carefully with blankets, shrink-wrapped it, and then tethered the dolly strap securely. Because of our closing date, our things needed to be stored over a 4-day period at their warehouse before they could be received at our new home. It was a bit of an intricate move, but they handled it very well. We very much appreciate Vlad, VKH, and our 3-man moving crew. Thanks Vlad! Mark and Debbie"

"The two movers, Shaw and Devon, were fast, efficient, careful, and thoroughly professional.  The move took a little more than the three hours I initially contracted for, but not because they were slow.  They worked hard and delivered my items in good condition.  If all of their movers are this good, this is a great company to hire for your move.

"Movers were fast and professional. They knew how to setup the piano and even pointed out several things to us. They provided pre-move damage pictures as well. They worked within a very tight time frame and on short notice. Would highly recommend them to anyone needing a piano moved."

"Zip Moving & Storage was awesome! So we recently moved to Dallas, into our dream house, and everything was just perfect! This was our first move, so we werent really sure how the pricing works. When we spoke to the representative they were patiently explaining everything about how moving works and the estimate for our move was reasonable in our opinion. We decided to pack our items on our own, and they were pleasant enough to give us packing tips! Now we realized that moving is a difficult task, but thankfully these amazing movers made it super easy. Our belongings arrived at the agreed time and the truck was unloaded within just a couple of hours and our furniture assembled. Wow, after many crazy stories about moving companies we heard from our family and friends we are lucky to hire an amazing company like Zip Moving and Storage that really exceeded our expectations. Now we can confidently give recommendations to everyone we know."

"Affix Movers did an excellent job packing for my move. Everything was handled with care, and extra precautions were taken to ensure there was no damage done to any of my furniture, equipment & belongings. We received the special attention you may not receive from the larger moving companies. I highly recommend them."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

The cost to ship furniture can range from $300 to $4,500 per piece, depending on the size and weight of the item and where it’s being shipped to. For a cross-country move, which companies consider any distance over 400 miles, it will cost $300 to $800 per piece to ship furniture. For an international move, shipping will cost around $1,000 to $4,500 per piece.

Most upright pianos weigh between 500 and 1000 pounds. Other vertical pianos, which are sometimes confused with upright pianos, may be between 200 and 500 pounds. Spinet pianos weigh between 200 and 400 pounds, console pianos are 350 to 450 pounds, and studio pianos are 400 to 500 pounds.

Yes, in almost all cases, it is worth the investment to hire professional piano movers. Pianos are not only heavy and bulky but are also often expensive and delicate instruments. Attempting to move one yourself poses a significant risk of damage to the piano, your home, and can lead to serious personal injury, especially when navigating stairs. The average cost of hiring professional movers (around $400) is typically much less than the potential cost of repairs, replacement, or medical bills that could result from an unsuccessful DIY move.

If you need to move heavy furniture inside your house, like a grandfather clock, consider hiring professional movers for this service, too. Many moving companies advertise in-house moving services, including transporting heavy items to different rooms or floors of the house. It’s best to hire professional movers for this task to avoid damaging parts of your home, like narrow stairways or flooring, or the item during the process.

A reasonable moving budget for local moves is $880 to $2,540 , while you can expect long-distance moves to cost between $2,700 to $10,000 , depending on distance, house size, and other cost factors. You can calculate your relocation budget by totaling the cost of your moving services, such as renting a moving truck, hiring professional movers, and packing services.
