"Supreme Electric was great. They showed up on time, worked quickly and swapped out the cheap plastic electric boxes and installed the ceiling fans we provided all while cleaning up and leaving no trace. I've had bad experiences before, but this was far different. We are very happy that such a small job was done promptly and done well. That can be hard to find these days. We will definitely hire again as we still need a few things done."

"I highly recommend CAP Electrical for all of your electrical needs! Not only do they do an outstanding job, but they are extremely friendly, customer service oriented, and honest. The day that Rod (President) came out to give me an estimate, I thought that I had a short in one of my kitchen light fixtures. Rod quickly pointed out that I was not using the right type of bulb in the fixture (non-dimmable bulb on a dimmable light). That display of honesty led to me hiring Rod and his guys for the rest of the work I needed done, and I'm very glad I did. They ended up installing recessed lights in my basement, a receptacle on my front porch, repairing switches in my main breaker panel, and fixed existing receptacles throughout my house. The electricians Rod sent were very personable and courteous. They worked very efficiently, and ensured that my satisfaction was their number one priority. As the electricians worked they informed me that some of the work that they did was not as involved as originally anticipated, which ultimately led to me saving money. Another display of honesty and customer service at its finest. In addition, CAP was very flexible when it came to scheduling a day to come out. If you're looking for a company that prioritizes customer service and is extremely honest then look no further than CAP electrical. They are very good people who work hard and do the right thing! I'm very pleased with the work that they did and I know you will be too."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.

It might seem counterintuitive, but installing a generator transfer switch will save you money in the long run. While you’ll have to pay between $400 and $2,500 to have the transfer switch installed, you’ll recoup that amount later on when you don’t have to pay for expensive repairs to your appliances, devices, and electrical system that may have burned out, overloaded, or stopped working due to a sudden loss of power or an incorrect hook up of a generator to your home

If your home already has a grinder pump and you’re still noticing issues (like frequently clogged toilets and sinks), it could be time to upgrade your grinder pump. Start by checking your existing horsepower. If there are four or fewer people living in your home, using a 1/2-horsepower grinder pump should be sufficient. Larger households should consider investing in a 1-horsepower grinder pump to maximize wastewater removal efforts.

It is safe to run a generator continuously, but you must follow safety protocols to ensure personal and home safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations, but the general recommendation is to turn generators off overnight or when you’re away from the house. Overworked generators can pose a fire hazard and if your generator is not in a well-ventilated area, running it continuously could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
