"They did a fantastic job on my large 2 level deck! They were very careful not to get stain on the patio underneath or the new siding on the house! We were so pleased with their professionalism and attention to detail that we also had them pain the entire main level of our house, walls and ceiling. Again, a beautiful, careful and professional job from prep to finishing touches! They also removed a decorative column that has plagued me for years and you would never know it was there now. I plan to hire them again for future jobs in our home. Excellent!!"

"Stan and his team are just "Outstanding". On time to job and worked to schedule for completion . Their attention to detail and prep and staining was as good as I have every seen. His bid for services was very competitive. I just can not say enough about his power washing of my home, gutters, deck and gazebo and the subsequent re-staining of my deck and gazebo. I not only recommend Stan's Home Improvements to others I look forward to contracting with him for other services myself. One Happy Camper!"

"Dionysios and his crew did great work, and they were quick as well. They did a ton of surface prep work (spackling, sanding, etc) to get our house's walls smoother than they've probably ever been. Plus they were very communicative."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.

A concrete overlay is often the most cost-effective way to resurface a pool deck. To do this, you’ll need to pour a thin layer of concrete over the existing pool deck, which you can customize by stamping or painting. A stamped concrete overlay provides additional traction on a pool deck that can help minimize the risk of people slipping and falling.

Always sand a deck before repainting so the wood is smooth and ready for paint. While you do not need to fully remove paint before repainting, sanding helps remove any areas with weather and sun damage. Sanding also helps remove chipped or flaking paint and opens the wood pores to improve paint adhesion.

If you have wood decking, there are several common deck problems that you might encounter. For example, your natural wood boards may fade over time due to things like sunlight, weather, and debris. On top of that, some types of wood decking can rot, grow mold, and attract destructive pests—including termites, carpenter ants, and woodpeckers.

Staining a deck with a rag is typically a better option than using a brush, as it helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. However, both brushes and rags are best reserved for detailed work because using these tools on an entire deck can require tediously crawling around on your hands and knees. A pad applicator, sprayer, or roller are preferred alternatives to applying stain over the majority of a deck. Use a rag for railings and other detailed work, and let the wood soak up as much of the stain as possible before wiping away drips or pools.
