"We replaced the original roof on our house. I expressed my concerns about re-installation of the lightening rods to my roofer. We have had at least three direct hits since they were originally installed in 2013. My roofer called William who was very helpful. William offered to come out an make sure everything was 100% after re-installation. He came the day after I called and I'm glad he did. While the reinstall was the best he had seen (his words) there were issues after 5 year and 3 strikes that needed addressed. He fixed those and now I have a new roof and I am certain the lightening rods will work as intended. Highly recommend this company."

Energy Select is a full-service energy consultant and contractor. Our main focus is solar panel installation. We specialize in looking at the whole picture to provide the best energy solution with a balanced effort of energy conservation and clean energy production. We will look into each customer's needs and situation in order to evaluate the best solution, even if it is not going solar! Unfortunately, we do NOT provide solar panel repair.

"Our experience with Energy Select and the installation of our solar panels was outstanding! They are extremely knowledgeable about the products and what the products can do for your renewable energy desires. Their team worked hand in hand with us during the entire process and even helped us apply for grants with the USDA. We were in contact almost daily. If we had any questions or concerns, they were addressed immediately. Honestly, it felt like we were working together as a team during the entire process which made things seem almost effortless. The installation went smooth and was completed much faster than we anticipated. Our solar panels are now generating more energy than we even use. We highly recommend Energy Select for your solar panel needs!"

Sean, the owner of Murphy Family Electric, first worked alongside his electrician father when he was a mere 14 years old. The experience stuck with him, and in addition to a college degree, he went on to attain his master electrical tradesman license. Book on our website www.murphyfamilyelectric.com Today, he and his team at Murphy Family Electric carry on the tradition and perform electrician services for homeowners Easily book and get deals and pricing upfront. "Murphy's Family Services should never be hired for electrical work. They are a company that cuts corners and takes advantage of its customers. Before writing this review, I made multiple attempts to contact Murphy's Family Services. When they finally answered and I asked if them if they had a minute to talk to me, they said “no” and hung up. This is the level of service Murphy has to offer. I hired Murphy's Family Services for a full day of service on August 7th, 2020. Based on the previous reviews, I expected a professional that could do things in a safe and timely manner. Unfortunately, I ended up with incredibly slow service, multiple electrical code violations, and a complete lack of professionalism. The day started with the electrician coming an hour late. Luckily, I currently work from home so I was able to greet them at the door and run through everything I needed to have done. He told me everything was good and got to work. After only working for three hours, the electrician walked over and informed me he didn't have the right supplies for the rest of the work so I would either need to cut the visit short (half a day) or pay for his time while he was out shopping for the supplies. This was a big red flag for me because we had gone through the list upon arrival so he knew at the start he did not have the supplies but stayed quiet. Also, one day of electrical work was a much better deal than doing two half a day ($929 versus $764). I was at a meeting for work during this conversation so I didn't have time to really talk this through with him. I just told him that he needed to finish the basement light (since that was a high priority and still not started) and that I would call to discuss if I wanted to do the rest of the work another day. The work completed in a four hour period: * Replace a two-wire (ungrounded) electrical outlet with a three-prong - I told the electrician I wanted a GFCI outlet put in but he told me this was unnecessary and installed a grounded, three-wire electrical outlet where there is no ground to connect to. This was the first National Electrical Code (NEC) violation. * Replace an improperly installed light fixture in the basement with a proper one - The previous homeowners had improperly installed a hanging fluorescent light so I asked my electrician to take that light down and put in an outlet so that the new light could be installed correctly. The new light was a LED shop light with a cord. The electrician ignored my instructions and cut the cord, hard-writing the light into an electrical junction box. This is the second NEC code violation. To get this fixed, I will have to buy a 3rd light fixture since the cord has been cut. * Replace a ceiling fan in my bedroom - This was done very poorly. For one, the electrician forgot to connect my light switch to the fan so now the light/fan can only be controlled via pull chain (my light switch does nothing). - I also noticed that the ceiling fan swings quite a bit and had another electrician took a look for me during an estimate, they told me that I didn't have a fan rated box installed and there was a risk of the fan falling on us when we were sleeping. This was the third NEC code violation. * Add an electrical outlet a foot away from an existing outlet - The outlet seems to work but I'm hesitant to use it because everything else was done incorrectly. Do not hire Murphy's Family Services for any electrical work!"

Weisman Electric Company is a local, multi-generation family-owned and operated electrical contractor based in Annapolis, MD. Our longstanding history of serving the local Anne Arundel County community and surrounding Maryland areas for nearly 40 years has catapulted us to be the Maryland region’s premier Electrical Contractor but at our core we are still your local electrician. We specialize in both residential and commercial electric. We are also one of the area’s largest supplier, dealer and installer for home standby generators. Please visit our website (www.weismanelectric.com) for a comprehensive list of services.

"I have used this company for years and been very happy with their work. A tech and his helper recently came to replace a bath exhaust fan. They had to go up to the attic to complete the installation. After they left, I noticed that the helper had put his foot through the ceiling of the room next to the bathroom. I contacted the company and sent pictures. I was told that they did not pay for damage caused by their employees. The gentleman pointed out that ”the crack was not that bad anyway.“ (The crack was three feet long.) The bath exhaust fan works well, but I will not be using them in the future."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generator size requirements vary wildly among properties, but typical generator sizes are listed below based on home square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20kW+

Unfortunately, home square footage isn’t always a good indicator of generator size requirements. Instead, you should call in a professional to discuss which items in your home you’d like to run via your generator. They can calculate peak and average consumption for those items and then size your generator appropriately for optimal performance.

If you’re wondering whether gas generators produce carbon monoxide, know that natural gas generators do not produce carbon monoxide if they are functioning properly, as natural gas burns cleanly. However, if the generator malfunctions and the gas does not burn completely, there is potential for carbon dioxide to be produced. To prevent malfunctions, it's crucial to perform regular maintenance, including running the generator weekly and scheduling professional inspections every 6 to 12 months. Also, be sure to test your carbon monoxide detectors regularly to ensure they function in the rare case of the generator producing carbon monoxide.

A portable generator can supply power to selected appliances and circuits in a home, but it's generally not designed to handle the entire household's electrical needs simultaneously. Portable generators have limited wattage capacity, so they are only designed to power essential devices and electronics temporarily until local power is restored. If your power needs outweigh the capabilities of a portable generator, consider installing a whole-home generator instead.

When maintained properly, a whole-house generator can last up to 20 years. Costs to maintain and repair generators vary by location and type of generator, but you can expect to pay about $150 to $300 per year for annual generator maintenance checks. An experienced generator service technician will inspect your generator’s engine filter, starting mechanism, fuel, lubrication, and coolant levels to keep your generator in good working condition for as long as possible.

Yes, whole-house generators run constantly for extended periods. Whole-house generators can run for longer periods of time than portable generators, but be careful. First, they may need regular applications of engine oil (as frequently as daily), depending on the engine design. Second, running constantly for several days will increase the wear and tear on the generator and shorten its lifespan.
