"Our first interaction with Atlas was with Shannon. As knowledgeable and personable as one could hope for. She clearly explained cost effective measures to better insulate our house. We opted for sealing and insulating our attic and weather stripping a number of doors. We were very pleased with the workmanship and the energy savings they produced. They also helped us get a PEPCO credit which reduced the overall cost of the job. A winner!"

"Between Brad K., the company’s support team, and the crews who come out to do the job and execute the work, you cannot select a better company to help you make your home energy efficient and reduce your utility bills by insulating the house and sealing your duct work. As for Brad K., the job begins with Brad coming to your house and conducting an Energy Audit. This gives everyone a far better understanding as to what needs to be done in your home. And, Brad concludes with conducting a “ Test Out,“ to see the improvements. Pepco will offer you a partial rebate for the work completed and they are very satisfied with a 20% reduction. As for us, we hammered Brad with dozens of questions over the course of time before and after we ratified an agreement. In every case, Brad was extraordinarily responsive especially with him being burdened performing audits throughout the day and being offsite. We couldn’t be happier with Brad’s performance. The same goes for the inside team including Jeff, Gordon and Ashley. And, everyone of the guys and their team leads who came to the house not only focused on executing their expertise, but were also very customer focused. In our case, the “test out demonstrated a 36% reduction,“ and Brad believes the partial rebate will be even greater. A Little Constructive Feedback Here: Be sure to ask and fully understand what needs to be done prior to the crews arriving. We had three teams over three days (not in a row) and learned at that moment what more needed to be done to fully finish the job. This will minimize to virtually eliminate any further challenges for the crews and yourselves. However, the job was completed. Over the next 45 days or so, after our utility bill fully cycles, we look forward to seeing the results of Atlas’s work and the reduction in our utility bills. Atlas Home Energy Solutions is Your Best Buy. We are certainly available to provide any further references. RichandJames Peterson Silver Spring, MD (301) 592-1616 Email: [email protected]"

"We needed insulation applied only to the underside of the house at this time. The guy who came out to give an estimate was great. The guy that came out to do the spray job (I expected a team and got just one guy) was super nice. The spray foam would appear to be difficult to manage during application as some spots only have a skim of insulation while others seem to have 7 inches of it. The office..... trying to get any information from that office.... was a hassle way beyond my wildest nightmares. Getting the estimate took days, getting scheduled took days. They have only one person working to do all of the scheduling and she "is out of the office" during a whole heck of a lot of "our office hours are from...". Figuring out what I needed to know to pay online took pulling teeth. It was the best price I got and it will make a world of difference to that house structure and its moisture issues.... but good grief!"

"Gave them a 4 star review because they have a job minimum $ amount. Dan, the service coordinator was very nice, professional, and friendly - couldn’t have asked for more from him. I asked too many questions and he was always patient with me. The guys came and did the work, cleaned up, and left within a couple hours with no hassle. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for insulation"

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Whether to repair or replace water-damaged plaster depends on the scale of the damage. For small, limited areas, you can often perform a repair yourself. If you choose to paint over small patches, ensure the surface is completely dry and apply a coat of antifungal primer first to prevent mold growth. However, simply painting or plastering over the damage is only a temporary solution that doesn't address the core problem. For more extensive or long-term damage, the plaster may be compromised, and there is a risk of mold. In these cases, it is recommended to remove the damaged section of plasterboard and replace it. You may consider hiring a professional for the repair, and it's worth noting that water damage is often covered by home insurance.

While not always necessary, you can glue a drywall ceiling in addition to using screws or nails. Drywall is typically secured to ceiling joists with fasteners, which is often sufficient. However, adding construction adhesive can offer benefits like preventing sagging, bridging gaps, and reducing air leaks for better energy efficiency. It may also be used for specific acoustic or insulation needs. On the other hand, many professionals advise against it because properly placed screws make the drywall structural, glue doesn't add strength, and it makes future repairs or replacements significantly more difficult. Ultimately, it's best to follow local building codes and project-specific requirements to decide if adhesive is right for your ceiling.

This depends on how much plaster is applied and in how many layers, but a decent estimate is around 150 square feet. If you are applying only two coats on a small wall, there is a chance you may only need one or two gallons for the entire project. If you are plastering a large living room wall with high ceilings, using one of the more involved techniques–like Scagliola–that requires several coats, expect the project materials costs to add up quickly.

Plaster is a beautiful finish but is labor-intensive to install and remove. It’s vulnerable to cracking and more sensitive to moisture variance than drywall. Installing plaster on a new wall is an expensive process that can take days to weeks, depending on the scope. Removing a plaster wall can also be quite expensive and time-consuming.

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.
