"I highly recommend Walking miracles renovation for the work that employee, Danny Jones, a true craftsman, did to remove and replace rotten wooden lintels, one above a window and one in my alleyway, in my 1890â s vintage row house. Casey Jones, his son Ryan Jones and Danny Jones were honest, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with."

"Blackstone Kitchen & Bath provide a wonderful customer service experience from the initial estimation process throughout the product selection and the renovation. My finished kitchen far surpasses the dream kitchen I pictured in my mind’s eye. Junior Wizzart, Salesman assisted me with the product selection and kept me within my budget. Kadir, Project Manager, is very experienced in the renovation process and he shared his knowledge, expertise , and recommendations with me throughout the process since I was a novice in this area. Every Blackstone staff person and laborer who you interact with are professional and courteous. I have already recommended Blackstone Kitchen & Bath to family & friends. I will continue to do so. I am so happy with my new kitchen. Would I use Blackstone Kitchen & Bath for any future projects? YES! YES! YES!"

"Ana was the representative and was professional and started work immediately. The team of workers were very adept, polite and did the entire job in 4 days; modifications included drywall, flooring, plumbing, painting and installing some lighting. We had changes because the building needed to be modernized. After the initial project was finished, I found Ana was able to produce HVAC for my laser engravers. CR Home Improvement has teams to get the job done. I recommend them for their speed and quality."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

Hiring a woodworker can be expensive, depending on the job, but it’s very often well worth the investment. Woodworkers are able to provide custom pieces of furniture and handmade construction to present a finished product that is exactly to your specifications. If you have a specific vision for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture or home feature, the cost of hiring a professional woodworker is worthwhile. Plus, you’ll often get a higher quality product than what you could buy in stores for a fraction of the price.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.
