We got the estimate about May 18. He said he wasn't able to start until mid-June which we accepted. However, later he had to push his start date back a couple of days, and ran behind schedule on the job. He did finally finish the job on July 3. (he installed the baseboards a couple of weeks later after the tile was installed, which was good)
We are happy with the work he did. It was a difficult job. The addition had a lot of oddities - sloped ceiling, really not square room, door and window opening and closings not quite right, uneven floor. And the room is un-heated/un-air conditioned. He did a great job getting the drywall, cement board, and casings installed, accomodating all of those oddities. We have no complaints about his work.
Our only complaint was with the schedule. As noted, he finished after the agreed-upon and quot;due dateand quot; and I had hoped it would be done before then. As other reviewers commented, while he works, he works really hard and doesn't stop. However, at least at our job, he would only work for a few hours each day.....some days 3-5 hours, a couple of days 2 hours, a few days more than 5. The total job took more than 2 weeks to complete, but I think could have been done sooner if he'd worked full days, especially at the beginning of the job.
He was apologetic about the delay completing the job and even offered to help us paint and tile, which is very nice and the offer was appreciated. We did the painting and tiling ourselves, and got the room completed in time for our big party, so all's well in the end.
on Angies List and it could not have gone any better,I would recommend Charles Jackson
to everyone
Overall a great experience and I would not hesitate to call him again.
I previously had another contractor charge me $385 to and quot;repairand quot; the leak, and it still leaked. When I had him back to repair it properly, he said I would need to replace the whole ridge vent for a cost of over $800. That's when I called Mr. Jackson.
Mr. Jackson came exactly at the time he stated both for the estimate and then the actual repair. I wish I would have called him the first time. I will certainly call him again when I need a repair.

The problem was that he wasn't able to install the ceiling fan. He had most of the first one put together, but said that the remote box would not fit in the mounting bracket. He wanted me to tell him how it would fit in! I have never had an installer of any kind assume that the homeowner would be able to instruct him or her in how to do things when we have specifically hired him to do a job for us. If an installer was uncertain, I have seen them call the manufacturer of the product to get further information. He suggested that we could use the ceiling fan without the remote. And you could not control the speed or the direction of the fan. This meant that the light would go on whenever the fan would go on, which we mostly wanted to use at night when we sleep. When we pointed this out to him, he suggested he could take the light bulbs out. Then there would be no light in the room! Now does this sound like a professional or an amateur?
I asked him to take the fan back down and put back the original ceiling fixture. We paid him for his trip but got nothing but a wasted afternoon of waiting around for him. We did not ask him to try to install the second fan.
"I accepted this project with a blind quote of $55.00. Removing and old ceiling fan and replacing with a new fan takes approximately 45 mins. The ceiling fans were purchased along with separate remote transmitter and receiver. I was not made aware of this during my conversation with the client. After removing existing ceiling fan I noticed that the ceiling electrical box was an antique electrical box that sat 3" up into the ceiling or not level with ceiling finished surface. When I installed the fan mounting bracket to the electrical box 3 inches past the ceiling finished surface it did not allow for enough space to install the remote transmitter. I installed fan without remote receiver/transmitter. Total process for one fan took 2 hours, removing existing fan, installing new fan, removing new fan and re-installing old fan. I've installed several ceiling fans. My advice to customers, let the contractor know before hand if you purchase a ceiling fan with a separate remote transmitter/receiver. You can purchase fan with a built in receiver, this saves time and $$$."
