"I was very pleased and impressed with the quality of the workmanship and the courtesy and dedication of the staff. They were very anxious to please me and careful with their work. They arrived on the date promised and there was a manager who made sure everything was being done correctly. I was so pleased that I asked them to put me on the schedule to renew for next year. "Excellent! Jose was very responsive through the entire process, from the initial contact on Angie's list, to coming to give an estimate of the work, to scheduling and completing the job. This was a large job - we had removed a retaining wall and needed to fill it in with dirt before planting the grass seen. Jose worked with me in order to estimate the amount and type of dirt in order to keep the cost down and still give us the result we wanted. The job was completed quickly and the results look great."

"Jose was AMAZING! He came highly recommended by a friend who is an environmentalist. She said he was honest, professional, very hard-working, a perfectionist and very knowledgeable about plants. He completely overhauled my overgrown garden. He pulled up an enormous amount of invasive ivy, removed poison ivy, trimmed back trees, cleaned gutters, manicured an overgrown garden - all in a day and a half. In short he was a miracle worker! I most highly recommend Jose and his company for any of your landscaping needs! He is wonderful!"

"Nelson is my go-to guy for any landscaping, yard work, patios, or anything else I need done on my property. After dealing with many unreliable, dishonest, and unscrupulous landscapers in this area, I’m happy to finally have found an honest, responsive, conscientious company that does fantastic work on schedule at a fair price. Nelson won’t be happy until his customer is happy. Very highly recommend!"

"VLC lawn care does a great job for a reasonable price. I love that I don’t have to do a thing to the yard because they take care of it all for me. They are prompt, maintain good communication when weather prevents them from mowing, friendly, and polite. I have no regrets about hiring this company."

Lawn Care FAQs, answered by experts

The best times to mow your lawn are mid-morning or early evening. Mowing in the mid-morning, around 10 a.m., allows any dew to evaporate so the grass is dry. Cutting dry grass is easier on both the lawn and the mower, and this timing gives the grass blades time to recover in the sunlight before the peak afternoon heat. Alternatively, you can mow in the late afternoon or early evening once the heat of the day has passed. Avoid mowing too early in the morning when the grass is still wet with dew, and try not to mow during the hottest part of the day, as high temperatures and harsh sunlight can put extra stress on the grass.

Yes! Fescue grass is a perennial that naturally regrows every spring. That’s why we recommend planting this grass variety in the spring to jump into the ideal growing and regrowing schedule. Keep in mind that fescue grasses thrive in cooler and transitional areas, so some species do best in moderate climates below 90 and above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Buffalo grass spreads through both underground roots and above-ground stolons. The widespread root and stolon system makes up for this grass’s overall lack of density. It’s a hearty grass, so it spreads on its own slowly, especially considering that most of the male (no staminate) varieties of grass are sterile. You may think about over-maintaining your lawn to encourage growth, but this would have the opposite effect.

Hiring a pro ensures consistent mowing at the correct height, promoting a healthier lawn and saving time for other activities.

As a beginner, start by mowing your lawn in symmetrical rows by turning the mower at the end of each row and overlapping with the previous row. Use an edging tool or weedwacker to make your lawn look sharp and crisp around the edges, and then sweep the debris back into the yard. Take it slow, and know that you can adjust your approach or pattern the next time your grass needs a clip.
