"Once again Ballard did a great job. The tree was next to a split rail fence and a shed. The guys brought it down carefully a piece at a time. They worked extremely efficiently and cleaned up great when done. Will absolutely use again. Thanks Ballard."

"We hired them in the summer and in the winter because of the dead tree they missed the first time. They did a good job of getting the dead trees and limbs out, but they trampled multiple small plants that we had just planted and put their equipment on top of our delicate shrubs, even though we asked them not to. They moved our stones and put them on top of our newly planted herbs, destroying part of the herbs. They did replace one plant after I complained."

"Ed and crew provided exceptional service from start to finished. They arrived early than scheduled time, which was great; they did exactly what they said they would do; performed the work with great skill and care to protect the worksite and surrounding properties in the townhome community. It was amazing to watch how the crew removed the 20ft tree with ease and cleaned up all debris. I am very pleased with the care provided to complete the service. Big kudos to Ed Barton and particularly the crew, will definitely recommend this company for tree service."

"we were so extremely pleased and impressed with this company that we would not hesitate to recommend them. Everyone , starting with Jose was extremely pleasant, neat and courteous. They removed a large maple tree and trimmed and shaped a large Japanese Cherry tree. The job was done and our yard was left completely clean. Thanks for a "jpb well done" Bernadette & Ed"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

There are a few instances in which removing a tree is the best option. You might do this if the tree looks to be a major danger—potentially falling onto your home, your car, or other parts of your property—or it’s diseased beyond repair. A tree that is growing too close to your house might need to be removed to prevent mold growth.

You can remove a small tree from your yard if there’s space for the tree to fall, you have the right tools and safety equipment, and you follow a clear plan of action. You’ll just want to follow the steps above carefully, and ideally, you will have experience doing similar tasks. If you have any doubts that you can do this project safely, though, you should hire a pro.

All of the tree root removal methods mentioned above are effective on any kind of root, whether it’s still growing or simply needs a gentle nudge to finish decomposing. The only difference is that larger roots tend to be harder to remove and may require multiple chemical treatments as well as manual labor to eradicate.

Some trees will bounce back just fine, and others will struggle and possibly die. Evergreens, for instance, have a very difficult time recovering after droughts and usually die after periods of extreme dryness. Usually, you’ll have to just wait and see—if the drought occurs in wintertime, it’s possible that your tree will recover during the gentler springtime.

Ideally, you should wait to prune until trees have gone dormant in late fall to early winter. The worst times to prune trees are early fall and late summer, as pruning them so close to dormancy makes it difficult for the tree recover before it goes dormant for the season.
