"I've used Brackettry Custom Homes more than once for large home projects. Daryl is very professional and reasonable with his prices. He constantly communicates with you and keeps you updated on the progress of the project. He offers excellent suggestions on home improvement details and uses his vast experience to make sure the end results are great. Daryl is very selective about the people he uses and is very respectful of your home while working in it. I felt super comfortable with allowing his team to be in my home unsupervised. His goal is always to have a satisfied customer, so he will work with you every step of the way. Definitely recommend Daryl from Brackettry LLC for all home improvements large or small. In the end, he removed carpeting, installed over 2 tons of bamboo hardwood flooring, stained and painted new stairs and railings, and painted large 2 story family room. Top notch work!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Tony and his crew showed up on time and performed the work per the contract. They did the drywall, painting, molding bathroom fixtures and flooring. Although their company's name is Maryland ProWash, they did a great job on repairing damage to the basement caused by a water leak. l would definitely have them do work again for me if a project comes up. Thanks again for a job well done."

"My initial contact was made through a local Home Show, which included 10 Waterproofing companies. Not knowing who to select I had three estimates including Thompson's. The first two were an over priced joke, pure snake oil. Example: One company for $3000 wanted to run an ION Machine which allegedly removes one molecule from the air killing any insects. Then a plastic sheet (they called it a Vapor Barrier) would be placed under the floor. Finally a fan would blow the humidity out the vent windows. This would do absolutely nothing!!The sales rep from Thompson's was knowledgeable and professional, except when he tried to close the sale.  He took the time to explain what causes water issues, mold, foundation problems and the correct way to fix it. No snake oil. What I did Not like was the pressure and trickery he used to try and close the sale. The initial price was over double what the final price was. He inflated the initial price then gave deep discounts creating the illusion that you are getting a special price. Then this "special price" was only available today so you have to make a decision NOW. When I told him what I was willing to pay he then said, "let me call Mr. Thompson and see if he'll accept your offer." This is the same worn out trick that car salesman use. He lost a lot of creditability pulling this stunt and almost lost the sale.
After the game playing stopped and I had a firm price I gave a deposit. Two employees arrived on the date and time promised. They were courteous and got right to work. Keep in mind that this is one of the dirtiest filthy jobs you can have done in your home. Heavy dirt dust is everywhere requiring a major clean up. To their credit they taped plastic runners on the floor and swept up when finished. The entire area still had to be mopped, vacuumed and dusted which took hours. I did not expect them to do this.  For the first 2 hours all I heard was the sound of a jack hammer breaking the concrete floor in the crawl space. This was necessary to install the sump pump. They removed bucket after bucket of broken concrete and dirt. Then they swept the entire crawl space removing old insulation panels covered with mold and other debris.  This took several hours and they did an excellent job. There was loose hanging insulation which they also cleaned up and reattached.  The old vent windows were sealed so the dehumidifier could work more efficiently. Fresh concrete was poured around the sump pump  bucket finishing the job. Since completed I no longer have a problem with spiders and insects in my rec room. The crawl space was a breeding ground for them. Now that it is cleaned & sealed with the dehumidifier running at 50% humidity they have all died. The crawl space is now clean and dry with no water issues.
Conclusion: Thompson's Waterproofing is a reputable company that does excellent work. They are experienced in all phases of waterproofing  and correcting problems. I would have rated them "A" Overall and "A" Professionalism had it not been for the pressure tactics and trickery they used to close the sale. I am very pleased with the job that they did and would recommend them."

"Because of plumbing work done previously in my split foyer house, large sections of walls and ceilings in laundry room, bathroom and family room had to be cut to replace the drain pipes.  I e-mailed Anthony explaining what I needed.  He responded right away and came to my house the next day to look over the project.  He was very professional and gave me an estimate on the spot, the charge for materials and labor was less than I had expected.  The drywall crew came three days later as agreed.  They were careful to keep a dusty type of work as clean as possible and completed the major portion of the job in one day.  Part of a second day was required for the final sanding and painting.  The workers were very professional and they did a great job.  In fact they went above of what I had expected. I highly recommend George's Painting Inc."

"The work was honestly great. Antonio gave a fair estimate. He arrived on time and finished when he said he would. He ended up doing additional drywall work on my older home and was respectful of the architecture. He was careful of my possessions and was very neat. I would have him back for any painting and drywall projects."

"I assumed that I had a leak from my roof that had caused some damage in
my ceiling.  Myriad said they could have someone over the next day
around 4:30.  Bill call to see if I was home at 2:00 and he was able to
come even earlier than scheduled.  This was great because I was in the
middle of painting the room and was anxious to finish.  He was very
friendly and got right to work.  Our big surprise was that a large
dormant bee's nest dropped out of my ceiling!  He continued to finish
the job and everything was done in excellent order.  He cleaned all the
nest fragments up along with the drywall dust.  I was very satisfied
with the job and very happy that the nest contained no live bees - whew!

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

You should always hang drywall from the top down. Starting at the top makes it easier to create a straight, tight line between the ceiling and the wall. Any gaps that occur will be at the bottom, where they are easier to manage. You can either cut the bottom piece of drywall to fit the remaining space or cover the gap with baseboard trim. Additionally, starting at the top is physically easier, as you won't have to fit the top sheet into a tight space between the lower sheet and the ceiling, or try to balance the upper sheets on the lower ones while securing them.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.

When sanding drywall mud, you’re going to create a very fine dust that may contain silica. Silica dust contains crystalline silica, which can cause long-term illnesses for people who inhale it in significant quantities. Wear a mask while sanding drywall. Then dampen a drywall sponge to wipe the dust off the drywall, helping to reduce the amount of dust that may become airborne.

Plastering lasts for around 15 to 20 years without needing repairs or maintenance in most cases, and with proper upkeep, plastering can last a lifetime—sometimes more than 100 years. Plaster repair costs between $1 and $3 per square foot, and you may need these services once every 15 to 20 years or so unless you have a harsh climate where humidity changes are a constant issue. You can also opt to skim-coat plaster for between $0.90 and $1.30 per square foot, which may serve you better in the long run.
