We have been roofing and doing home improvements for Baltimore since 2001. We complete most roofs within one day. There is never a leak, not once.

"After a storm, our roof needed repairs and we contacted Allwork for a quote. Originally, we only wanted some spot repairs that were going to be covered by teh insurance but Brian (the company's owner/manager) insisted to get a quote in for the whole roof which I thought the insurance woudl not want to pay all. Brian seemed quite convincing and I submitted his quote to the insurance anyway and to my surprise they accepted the whole work to be done. In the end Brian was right and he knows perfectly well his business. Do not be rebuke by his first impression of pushy attitude, he showed he knows how to get things done to the best interest of the customer. The working crew was very professional and mindful of the property and cleaned thoroughly after the job was done."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The best way to make long, straight cuts is to use a utility knife and a T-square to score the sheet, snap along the score, and then finish the cut by cutting through the paper on the opposite side with the utility knife. If you’re making small cuts, curved cuts, or cutouts for electrical boxes or light fixtures, you can use a manual jab saw to keep costs down, but an electric spiral saw or oscillating multi-tool will get the cleanest, fastest cuts possible.

Metal corners, often referred to as corner beads for square corners, are used on drywall installations to provide structural reinforcement to vulnerable outside corners. Their usage safeguards against chipping, denting, or other forms of damage, enhancing the overall durability of the wall. Metal corners also offer a precise and straight edge that facilitates sharp and clean lines, crucial for achieving a polished and professional finish.

Drywall does not necessarily need to be glued to the ceiling, especially when it is properly screwed or nailed into place. Drywall is typically attached to the ceiling joists using screws or nails, ensuring a secure and stable drywall installation

However, in certain situations where additional adhesion is required, construction adhesive can be applied in combination with screws or nails. This is often done for ceilings with specific acoustic or insulation requirements. It's essential to follow local building codes and best practices to determine if adhesive use is necessary for your specific project.

The average life span for drywall is between 40 and 60 years, although panels can last significantly longer in many cases if it’s well-maintained. Of course, many things can reduce the life span of your drywall, including fire, smoke damage, water, moisture, and physical damage, like dents and holes. Thankfully, you’re likely to get around 50 years of value out of professionally-installed drywall, making the $2,000 you’ll spend on the job well worth it in the long run.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.
