"Honest, knowledgeable and responsive. I was selling my home and the buyer had a termite inspection completed by another company. They claimed evidence of termites and sent me a very high quote for treatment. My realtor tried to contact several pest companies to get competing estimates but they would not without charging me for another inspection. Seems like there are many scammers in the industry (like HVAC). I finally found Rory who is very knowledgeable not only about pest control but also bureaucratic requirements. Down to earth, honest and responsive. He had his team at my house that same day, completed treatment, provided documentation and saved me hundreds of dollars over the competition. No need to look elsewhere."

"The Pest Now technician David Curry called that he was running late for our appointment as he was assisting a colleague on another job not far away. I very much appreciated his courtesy call. David was very professional and thoughtful in explaining to me the chemicals that Pest Now uses for insect control. He explained where and why he was spraying. He pointed out a problem area for carpenter bees and suggested a solution. Pest Now offered a quarterly service agreement on Angie's list that we purchased. Frankly, we have had pest control techs in the past, but none as professional as David Curry. We recommend Pest Now."

"Wow! What a great experience. It is New Year's Eve, we had an animal scratching around inside our microwave vent, and we had trouble finding anyone to come out. Then we called Potomac Pest & Termite Control--they answered the phone right away and had someone here in 30 minutes! They took care of the rodent and taught us a lot about various mouse and bird problems in our area. They knew our area well. What a relief! We definitely will be using Potomac Pest & Termite Control on a regular basis moving forward. Happy New Year!"

"They did a great job and were easy to work with. The person who helped us was understanding of our situation and was eager to find a solution that worked for us. They took care of the issue the same day, for a fair price when we thought they were only going to give us a free check. I would recommend this company to others in need of bird removal from gable vents."

"First Solutions fixed a small issue we had with a woodpecker pecking holes in our house. Carlos was very knowledgable and reviewed our property's needs as our past pest service got bought out and we needed a new service. He suggested things we could do to prevent pests. He wasn't pushy about what we 'should' get. We felt very comfortable using First Solutions in that they know what they are doing."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.

There are DIY methods and store-bought pesticides available for the public to use. However, these pesticides also come with a risk, and you need to follow the directions correctly and take precautionary measures to prevent exposure to these chemicals. These methods may be an option for small pest problems, but you should call in a pest control specialist for persistent pests and infestations.

Yes, many services include cleanup and sanitization to remove droppings and odors. Confirm with your provider.

Rabbits face a range of formidable adversaries in rural and suburban areas. Natural predators such as hawks, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, coyotes, and weasels pose significant threats to their survival. These skilled hunters target bunnies for food, contributing to regulating rabbit populations. Outdoor housepets can be enemies, too, particularly dogs and cats. And loud little humans playing in your yard make great rabbit deterrents, too.

The lifespan of a bird's nest depends on the species. The building process can take from two days to three weeks. Once built, the nesting period for baby birds can last from two to ten weeks before they leave the nest. While most young birds are ready in two to six weeks, some predatory species may need up to two and a half months. Some species nest four to five times per year, so a nest could remain in use for several months. For specific information about a particular nest's longevity, it is best to consult a wildlife professional.
