Yes, basic dusting of doors, door hardware, and door glass is usually included when you hire a house cleaner to clean your home. A house cleaner may also vacuum door frames or clean tracks in sliding doors if these tasks are requested. However, house cleaners generally will not touch up scuffs or other markings on doors. Consider hiring someone who repairs doors to handle these issues for you instead.

You should generally cut between 1/8-inch and 1 inch when planing a door. If you cut off more than that, you risk damaging the door. Planing too much from the bottom of your door can cause noticeable gaps, so it’s always better to start with as thin of a section as possible and work in thin layers until your door no longer sticks.

You can often fit a new door slab into an old frame as long as the frame’s in decent shape. The frame needs to be solid, square, and free of warping or rot. The new door has to match the old one in width, height, and thickness, and the hinge and knob placements need to line up or be adjusted carefully. However, if your frame is damaged, swapping just the door won’t cut it. In that case, replacing the entire unit would be the best move for a smooth, secure installation.

If you don’t know which door sweep to buy, look into getting a strip or bristle sweep. They’re easy to find at the store, work well for most doors, and the simple installation is DIYable. The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame.
