"Capital Fence are experienced professionals who do a great job. After spending time looking at our planned fence project with a representative of another fence company (not named here, but widely known in the metro DC area) and getting their estimate, I felt like we should maybe look further. So I looked at Capital Fence, saw their excellent ratings, and reached out to them. After spending time to look at the project with Dave MacKensie, I knew we'd hit a far better professional level with him and Capital Fence. He clearly had years of experience in the business. A fence project isn't a huge undertaking, but he was thorough in his assessment of the project, had great suggestions on how it should be done, including around plants and trees... and the estimate came in 20% lower than the more widely known company! When Capital's team actually did the project, they were painstaking and detail oriented. The fence was effectively built in place - no pre-fab sections - and it looks great. It is so good that our next door neighbors now want theirs done as well. Overall, we couldn't have had a better experience."

"We bought an Angie's List package for a garage door tune up. The person who came recommended we change the spring as it was too weak for the door's weight. After we made the change, the door is MUCH quieter to operate and water does not seep in the garage under the door as it used to. We are very satisfied with the services that were performed"

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

A DIY manual wooden gate costs $200 to $600 for a basic single-swing gate. If you want to hire a pro, a manual wood gate can cost $400 to $4,000. For automated wood gates, expect to pay $850 to $8,500.

Factors that affect price include the quality of materials, cost of labor, the height of the gate, and the type of gate you need.

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

Generally, the standard 10- to 12-inch-long and 1- to 1.5-inch-diameter gate springs will work. However, if you have an especially wide, thick, or heavy garden gate, you may need to opt for a longer, broader—and pricier—model to ensure secure closure and good longevity. These typically range between 12 and 16 inches long and are over 1.5 inches in diameter.

Locksmiths offer keyless entry systems, high-security locks, panic bars, electronic access control, and biometric security solutions.

Electric gates can be forced open if someone applies enough force to the edge furthest from the mounting bracket. You can reduce this risk by adding an electric lock to your gate opener. However, automatic gate openers generally help deter intruders, especially when paired with outdoor lighting and security cameras. Other home security tips include trimming trees surrounding the area for added visibility and installing motion sensors in your yard.
