"I requested that Capital Locksmith rekey the lock on my entry door. Prior to agreeing to perform the rekeying service the locksmith requested that I text him a picture of my existing key so he could determine if rekeying the lock was possible. The locksmith determined that rekeying my lock could be done. I was able to quickly make an appointment for the service. The locksmith arrived on time and quickly rekeyed the lock. I had requested 5 keys and he fulfilled my request. The cost for the service was very reasonable. I am very satisfied with the services of Capital Locksmith"

"Update 4/8/15: I have changed my ratings for Price and Professionalism from B to A because I was contacted yesterday by Jim (Owner? / Manager?) at Sure Fit Security.  He had read my earlier review and noted that the technician had not fully followed protocol by not telling me in advance what the costs would be, and he offered a 10% discount on the work.  THIS, DEAR READERS, IS CALLED GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!  My earlier comments were not really negative - I just expressed surprise at the final cost while at the same time acknowledging that I still considered it reasonable given the quality of the service and equipment.  The follow-up from Jim demonstrates that the value of using a company like Sure Fit Security, as well as the value of using Angies List and providing useful feedback in reviews.
=========================================

My real estate agent recommended this company. I found them on Angies List and they were local and well-reviewed.  I left a message via Angies List after hours and was promptly contacted the next morning.  They were able to schedule a technician to come to my house between 10am and 1pm.  The technician arrived shortly after 10am.  I was delayed, and he agreed to wait the 15 minunutes it was going to take for me to arrive. The technician was knowledgeable and professional, not overly friendly, but ok.
Per my request, all locks can now be opened with the same key.  I was surprised by the final cost, but I don't think it was unreasonable.  One door was locked and the key to unlock it had been lost, so there was a charge to pick the lock.  Another door had a cheap lock mechanism that could not be rekeyed to match the others, so that door knob and deadbolt had to be replaced.  $60 for a new doorknob is a little pricey (I bought a similar one at Home Depot for around $25) but I know that the quality was good.
In summary, the work was done promptly and profesionally and I am satisfied. The price was reasonable even though it was more than I anticipated.  I should have asked for an estimate beforehand.
(Note: In the past my mother was scammed by a locksmith company, and while trying and failing to get her money back I did a lot of research and found that locksmith scams are a major problem.  I was pleased to see on the Sure-fit Security web site that they hold professional certifications and even warn against the danger of scammers.)

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Yes. Most deadbolts purchased from a home improvement store include a step-by-step installation template that is easy to follow, even for novice DIYers. One of the most important steps for successful deadbolt installation is having the proper tools to start with and carefully measuring prior to any attempts at installation.

You might assume that having two locks on one door will offer more protection than only one lock, but there may not be an advantage. While there’s nothing wrong with having two locks if you feel it’s best for your living situation, rest assured having one high-quality deadbolt installed correctly will offer a high level of protection.

Yes, it’s possible a burglar can get through a deadbolt. Some types of deadbolts are harder for an intruder to get through, though. For example, a single-cylinder lock only requires breaking a window nearby and simply turning it. While other locks, such as a double-cylinder lock, may offer greater protection and make it harder for an intruder, no deadbolt is 100 percent effective.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

Lock picking is a relatively subtle method of unauthorized access, making it hard to detect. But there are telltale signs to look for. First, look for scratches or tool marks around the keyhole or the lock's surface. Also, check for loose or misaligned components, like a wonky strike plate, which could indicate tampering. Consulting a locksmith or security professional for an assessment can provide valuable insights, too. Investing in high-quality locks and considering additional security measures, like security cameras, can help deter potential intruders and enhance your overall safety.
