"Had a large and unsightly hole in the ceiling sheet rock in the bedroom (I'd Accidentally slipped off a beam in the attic and put my entire foot through the ceiling. Area needing repair ended up being about 4 ft square. Danny did a fantastic job end even matched the ceiling texturing. Absolutely outstanding work. I have a couple other home projects I'd like to get done and will definitely hire him again!"

"I highly recommend American Kitchen Concepts, Inc. for your next home renovation project (small or big). We did our due diligence and did our research and inquired about our kitchen project with several different companies. Dan Millard, the owner, is hands down the best all around. He is attentive to your requests from day 1. He has been doing this for a very long time and it is apparent when you first meet him and throughout the project. He is very knowledgeable, honest, professional, and customer satisfaction is his number one goal. His staff is punctual, talented, professional, and very efficient. We were given priority when it came for our project to begin and were given a timeline of what to expect from the beginning to the end. Dan is big on communication and relays any delays, changes, or even provides relevant recommendations when needed. We even added a few things in the middle of our project and Dan was very responsive and made sure it got done. He ensures that the customer is completely satisfied with the job. We had some minor things that needed to address after the job was completed and Dan made sure it was done right away to our satisfaction. We are extremely happy with our renovation. If you are looking for a company that is honest, hard-working, reliable, efficient, professional, and efficient, then this is the company for you. In my opinion, they are exceptional!"

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Using a paint sprayer is the most effective method for painting popcorn ceilings, and it's why professionals choose spraying versus rolling paint. The sprayer simplifies the challenges of painting the texture. However, we don’t recommend that DIYers try to use a sprayer indoors as it could make a significant mess. Using a paint roller on a ladder is the easiest option that results in much less mess.

Yes, you can cover a popcorn ceiling, which is often more cost-effective and easier than scraping it off. Common methods include using ceiling-grade drywall, applying a skim coat, or installing beadboard panels to create a smooth, updated finish. Covering the ceiling can also protect you from asbestos exposure if the material contains it. However, it's important to note that this method only seals off the asbestos and does not eliminate it, which could be a concern for future renovations or home resale. If you suspect your ceiling contains asbestos, it's best to hire a local asbestos abatement company to test the material and manage its safe removal.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.

Textured walls can increase the value of your home if the style is modern and seen as a desirable feature and not something a prospective buyer would need to remedy. A good example of this is popcorn texture versus Venetian plaster. The plaster wall would add value to your home, whereas the popcorn texture may be something a new buyer would want to remove.
