"March 2024 I contacted JDL because my very old boiler (radiator heat) was making very loud noises, leaking water and the radiators were not heating up as they should have been. Tech [Provider Name Removed] came out, he was very professional, very knowledgeable, and very respectful of my home. He inspected the boiler in detail to determine the cause of the problems. He determined that several parts needed replacing. He worked diligently on replacing the parts on the boiler. My boiler is now working better than it has worked in years: it is running quietly, no water leaking, and radiators are putting out good heat. I highly recommend JDL HVAC and Plumbing Services."

"It was a pleasure hiring Sean. He was able to install our new thermostat which involved updating the wiring and removal of a module. Another company was unable to perform these tasks to get the HVAC running but Sean quickly resolved the issue. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and punctual. Don't miss out on hiring Simply Home services, you won't regret it."

"Although we had a bit of a hiccup in the beginning, he made sure the service was completed. The service was completed when other company’s had zero availability since my request wasn’t considered “emergency”. Much appreciated MSR!"

"I had a leak somewhere in my heat pump system from 2013 in a 4 floor condo building. Every other company was quoting me $7k+ to replace the system but it turns out to be a leak in the line set between the 3rd floor and the roof! We had a new line set installed and I spent $2550 in total! The crew was very professional and worked extremely had in the hottest weather to get the job done, too!"

"The level of professionalism and expertise this man exerts is phenomenal. His work is superb and so far is really better than brand new quality. With the work that we had completed, the furnace repair allows it to function as if it was new when we first bought the home; thank you so much Mr. Cj and Company Associatesâ ¦"

Boiler Repair questions, answered by experts

There are several types of home radiators, and the most common are steam heat radiators, electric radiators, and dual-fuel radiators. Steam heat radiators are connected to a boiler. Electric radiators can operate without being connected to anything else—they just need an electrical outlet. If you have a dual-fuel radiator, you’ll see a valve at the bottom of the system with a wire coming out of it and going into a wall. These are often your towel radiators in the bathroom. The type of radiator you have will impact how you turn it on.

Annual servicing, checking for leaks, and maintaining proper pressure extend the system’s life.

Signs of needing a new expansion tank include visible leaks and a dull sound when you knock your knuckles against the tank (working tanks should sound hollow). A malfunctioning tank may also sweat with condensation, cause pipes to create loud noises when the system is turned off, and lead to very high-pressure readings on the boiler’s gauges. When in doubt, call for a professional inspection to find the source of the problem.

Chilled water HVAC systems use water instead of traditional components and refrigerants. They're more common in commercial settings than residential ones but are slowly being adopted by some homebuilders to cool homes. As the name implies, the system keeps the water chilled at 40 degrees and circulates it through water coils. The water absorbs the heat from your home and drains outdoors. Condo apartments are more likely to have chilled water HVAC than single-family homes because this system is designed to cool several rooms or large areas individually.

In most cases, repairing a radiator is more affordable than replacing it. A typical repair may cost between $100 and $200, while a replacement can average $1,500, with a range of $250 to $2,500 depending on the unit type. Radiator issues are often simple fixes for a professional, such as a blown fuse, malfunctioning thermostat, or a loose valve, and can take less than an hour. However, if the long-term costs of fixing the radiator are higher than replacement, it's better to get a new model. It is recommended to consult a heating expert to diagnose the problem and determine the best solution for your situation.
