"The team from VMA was great! I had them come fix an outside light fixture - and they came and took care of it, arrived when they said they would arrive, got it done quickly, and charged an extremely fair price. Highly recommend!"

"As one of the requested lines involved a plenum in the garage that was plastered over only 1 of 2 network lines were installed. Instead of the flat rate 1/2 rate we got time and materials saving about 300."

"We've had a lot of renovation work done on our house over the last several years, and Superior Kitchens And Baths was the best company that we've worked with overall. Jane, Brandon, and their entire crew and subcontractors were all great to work with. They were very responsive, hard working, professional, stuck closely to their schedules, and did high quality work across the board. Additionally, Jane, Brandon, and Dustin are genuinely nice people that were great to get to know and interact with throughout the effort. From the start, Jane and Brandon came up with creative solutions to allow us to get everything we wanted in the renovation, and figured out potential pitfalls and workarounds before the work even started. They were great with helping us decide on overall designs and individual items throughout the work. They put together a thorough breakdown of costs for their proposal that they tracked throughout the effort, as well as a schedule that they stuck closely to. When unforeseen circumstances came up with folks getting sick and being unable to work, Brandon worked long days and weekends to keep caught up with their schedule. They seemed to treat the job like it was their own house. Overall, we'd highly recommend them, and would hire them again for any future work."

"We purchased an 1874 house that needed significant work with plans for us to move out of our old condo within three months of closing and asked for the nearly impossible task of finishing enough of the work to allow us to move out of our old condo in time. We had multiple contractors come and evaluate and it seemed that no one would be able to accomplish the feat, as we had plans for taking down several walls and chimney, completely redoing the kitchen, two bathrooms, and major cosmetic and other work including new electric, new central HVAC, and updating the plumbing and hot water. Ray came and evaluated the project and despite others who had said they would not be able to get the project done in the time frame we asked, he said that his company Bay State would be able to accomplish this. I could tell immediately with his thorough approach on that first visit that we would be in good hands. They began demolition the day after we closed on the purchase and in a crazy three month period they were able to check off all the major projects and somehow allowed us to move in. After moving in they completed the remaining major items, and we are now checking off the last small detail work. David was our project manager and he juggled and coordinated the builders, electricians, plumbers, HVAC people, painters, flooring people, kitchen designer. He worked incredibly hard to make sure we were able to move our family in and that we were happy with the results. My wife and I have very demanding requirements for the details of the work, and he worked tirelessly to make sure that the end result was up to our very high standards. Marcio (aka the Doctor) was the main builder who did an amazing job constructing the bathroom, kitchen, built-ins, new windows etc. Jonathan and his electrician crew was fantastic and gave us the custom lighting and complete rewired and updated the entire system throughout the house. David (Mr Fix it plumbing) also did great work adding an additional sink in the kitchen, completely new hot water heater and even sent water and sewage up to the attic to prep for a future bed/bath renovation. John the HVAC guy also did a great job adding a second HVAC system and we now have a beautiful modern and custom house that retains the charm of its 1874 roots. Many of our friends have done renovation projects with other groups that take far longer or cost far more than the initial estimate. Bay state however kept to their time frame, and when something extra or unexpected came up (as is wont to happen with a 144 year old house that had not been worked on in many years) they always gave us options on how to address the issue in case we did not want to spend the extra money. Overall we feel lucky that our family ended up in such good hands and we absolutely would recommend to others hiring Bay State for you major or minor project."

"The Kitchen Center came highly recommended by our designer as well as neighbors who had recently purchased kitchen cabinets.  We had an extensive renovation, including a new master bathroom and kitchen remodel.  Using quality materials that would endure the test of time in our new spaces was important to us, and after thorough comparison shopping we opted for Brookhaven cabinets from The Kitchen Center.   The Kitchen Center had a large selection of cabinet styles/ finishes, attractive hardware and convenient accessories.  We were able to find exactly what we had in mind.  The staff worked seamlessly with our designer. The cabinet installation was expertly done, with a keen eye to the smallest details.  Each staff member along the way was courteous and helpful.  Our rooms have been transformed into beautiful, comfortable and very functional spaces, due in large part to the cabinetry.  We are very pleased!

"I used MA Design & Construction for my kitchen remodel. Raquel and Marc were very helpful in going through the options from painting the existing cabinets through to full replacement. We started with more modest changes but after debate ended with essentially their initial recommendation. The workers throughout the project were professional and I never felt uneasy with them being around the family. As the project progressed there were recommendations that Marc or Raquel would make which led to a better outcome. Marc would also pick out imperfections in the work and insure they were addressed which was appreciated. We're very pleased with the outcome and would not hesitate to work with them again."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

Under-cabinet lighting is generally energy-efficient, especially when using LED technology. Compared to traditional ceiling lighting or older bulb types like halogen and incandescent, LED under-cabinet lights consume significantly less energy, which helps reduce operating costs. This applies to various forms, including strip lights, puck lights, and built-in fixtures. For an option that uses no electricity, consider battery-operated puck lights. While they require periodic battery replacements, they have the added advantage of functioning during a power outage.

LED light strips might fall off your walls if the walls weren’t clean before installation. Make sure you clean and dry the wall first to remove oil, dirt, and debris that can keep the adhesive strip from fully sticking to the surface. If you cleaned the area and the LED lights are still falling, try installing fixing clips to keep the lights in place.

If you’re planning to use an LED in an enclosed fixture like a lantern, check that the bulb is rated for enclosed spaces. LEDs are sensitive to heat, and overheating can lower their lifespan. While you can still use some LEDs safely in enclosed areas, it must be the right LED.

For high ceilings, chandeliers and pendant lights are great choices. They offer a decorative focal point to the room, while also illuminating the space. Track lighting may also be a good option for high ceilings as it allows you to position the lights around the space for all-over illumination.

Just as fluorescent lights are more efficient than incandescent lights, LED lights are more efficient to run than fluorescent lights. The specifics will vary from product to product, but LED lights are typically twice as efficient as equivalent fluorescent lights. A 13-watt CFL bulb can replace a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but a 6- to 8-watt LED bulb can offer the same amount of brightness. Fluorescent lights offer about 50 lumens per watt, while LEDs offer about 100 lumens per watt. LED light bulbs typically last two to three times as long as CFL bulbs, too.
