"Roy, Christian, and JJ did an excellent job . They were on time, polite, and knowledgeable. Roy double-checked the progress and answered any questions i had. Every portion of the job was done as it was explained to me during the quote. Sarah from customer service was responsive and notified when to expect crew. The gentleman ( forgot his name) that quoted job was informative, knowledgeable, and courteous. All in all, it was a very good experience . Regards, Paul"

"We are beyond pleased with the services provided by Hughes. Their workers were exceptional. They showed up on time, were polite, explained the process as the job progressed, answered all our questions and were extremely respectful of our home. They cleaned up as they went along and were very quiet. This was not an easy job. The slant roof and small space must have made this job all the more challenging because you can't stand up straight. The guys still managed to get it done within the time frame they had committed to and never once complained. The works looks very professional and our home feels so much more comfortable than it was before we insulated."

"We had a great experience with Chris and his team on the insulation of our walls and attic. Very professional and worked within our budget. He explained in detail the benefit and savings of blown-in insulation and we are happy that we chose this route as we definitely have noticed a decrease in the amount of oil we use each year and the house feels much warmer. We also reached out to Chris when we were ready to update our pressure treated deck and replace it with Trex. Another professional job completed by Chris and his team. Very fair pricing, clean up and disposal of old deck top notch. We highly recommend ECO Insulators for your insulation or renovation needs."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.

According to a report from Energy.gov, radiant barrier installations can save between 5% and 10% on your energy bill each month that your HVAC cooling is in operation. That fact can mean savings of up to more than $325 per year for homes that experience frequent direct sunlight and high summer temperatures.

No, you should avoid using antifreeze in your outdoor spigot to prevent freezing. Antifreeze can contaminate your water supply and harm the environment. Instead, employ safer and more effective methods for winterizing your spigot, such as draining the spigot and using insulation, to protect it from freezing temperatures.

Yes, insulating your cold water pipes is a great way to prevent condensation. When warm, humid air meets cold pipes, condensation forms, which can drip and cause moisture issues in your home. Pipe insulation acts as a barrier between the warm air and the cold pipes, keeping condensation at bay and helping you avoid potential problems like mold or structural damage.

Insulation can be made of cellulose, fiberglass, polyurethane, polystyrene, or mineral wool. Radiant barriers are often made of aluminum or other similarly reflective materials, but they will need to be paired with something else because they don’t provide heating benefits. Cellulose is among the most eco-friendly options and may be recycled when it’s past its shelf-life, whereas polyurethane and polystyrene both emit harmful compounds and will need to be handled with care during installation.
