"We requested that somebody from Meerkat come out to inspect one location of our house where we thought we might have a carpenter ant or termite problem. Jake Middleton arrived promptly and was very professional. As it turns out, we did not have a problem after all and the pile of debris we were seeing was caused by a gap in the foundation and fine silt coming in rather than actual ant or termite debris. Jake thoroughly explained what we would have seen if we did have a problem and what ant and termite debris looked like. He then continued to inspect other areas just to be sure. All was well and he did not try a sales pitch for anything further. We respected him even more for this. The inspection was free of charge. Based on this encounter with Jake, I would definitely recommend Meerkat Pest Control. "

"He was professional, courteous, prompt, reliable and thorough. He proved very knowledgeable and competent about his business. He provided a free estimate and thorough guided inspection of the interior and exterior of my residence pointing out observable issues, making recommendations and laying out a plan for remediation. Upon acceptance of his offer he returned for a 2-hour service call to treat areas around the foundation, sill and basement. I found his costs to be reasonable and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking termite and pest services."

Pest Control questions, answered by experts

Bug bombs do not typically eradicate a pest infestation completely. The bug bomb chemicals cannot reach into the small cracks and crevices that pests like to live in, so it may not reach every live bug. It’s much more effective to hire a professional pest control company to perform a home fumigation, removing the infestation fully.

Roof rats are relatively small rodents that typically measure around six to eight inches in length (excluding their long, scaly tails that are often longer than their bodies). They have sleek black or brown fur, pointed snouts, and large ears. In general, they are typically smaller and darker in color than common brown rats.

While not common, bird’s nests can cause problems to your property in some cases.

  • Block vents for your dryer, stove, and fans, creating a fire hazard

  • Clog gutters and drains, leading to roof and siding damage

  • Damage solar panels

  • Wiring issues if the nest is on or near a light fixture

Several bugs can look like ticks but aren’t, including beetles, bed bugs, spider beetles, and weevils. Aside from different types of beetles, the most common confusion is between ticks versus bed bugs. In any case, since a tick is an eight-legged arachnid, you can quickly differentiate by the number of legs, as all insects have six legs.

Brown recluse spiders are attracted to homes in search of warm, dry, and dark spots that provide easy access to insects. An existing bug problem is a primary attractant, as spiders follow their food source. Other factors that attract brown recluse spiders include the presence of anything that might lure insects, such as food left out or poorly sealed trash cans. They are also drawn to excessive outdoor lighting, untended wood or cardboard boxes, and dark areas with nooks and crannies for nesting, like woodpiles or dirt piles.
