Casey's Tree Service is dedicated to providing our customers with the best quality and craftsmanship. We are here to build relationships with our customers and communities and to provide our employees with a great place to work. We look forward to working with you!

"We had a rather large pine tree lake front obstructing our view We did not want to remove it but just wanted it professionally trimmed back. Casey did an excellent job. Now we have great, clear views of the waterfront. He showed up on time, was very professional and cleaned up the entire area."

"I was so pleased with the service provided. We had several trees removed and others trimmed away from my home in Becket. The whole process went smoothly. The crew was efficient, friendly and super professional. The work site was left clean and the work was done exactly as I had requested. And as an added bonus the price was more than fair. I would recommend and surely use them again in the future!!"

Hi. My name is Liz, and together with my husband, Luis, his son Marcelo, and his nephew Renato, we are Berkshire Handyman. We are in Pittsfield and we serve central Berkshire County. We do what we say and we say what we will do. We don’t make promises we can’t deliver on. We’re not the cheapest. But, personally, I think we are the best. (We’re also really nice.)

"Prompt and courteous. Worked through completion."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

The best time to cut down a tree is in winter or early spring, as the leaves have fallen and the tree is dormant —this is also why winter is the best time to trim trees. Frozen ground can secure the tree stump and neighboring trees and shrubs in place, reducing the risk of the tree changing direction. Because the leaves have fallen, there is also less risk of foliage from the tree being tangled up with that of another tree. If you hire a pro, tree services are the least busy during winter, meaning they may offer lower rates.

Whether tree roots will regrow after the tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some eventually tree roots die, as they lack photosynthesis; however, others can resprout from the roots and even produce new growth for up to seven years or more, if they belong to a species that reproduces through root sprouts.

For safety reasons, leaning trees are best removed by a professional, as they may often tear away from the hinge, causing you to lose control over where the tree falls. If you choose to cut down a tree leaning slightly, avoid cutting off root protrusions before you start. Make your hinge a little longer than usual by cutting it deeper (up to 30% of the diameter) and applying a wedge into the felling cut on the side the tree is leaning. Stand away from the direction the tree leans while making your felling cut.

Trees naturally want to grow upward, so one may straighten all by itself, though this only comes into play when a tree is leaning just a small amount. For trees growing into an awkward position or those leaning heavily in one direction, the above steps are necessary to ensure the tree gets back on the right path. This also holds true for trees planted in a spot with unstable soil.
