Customers say: Super punctual

"A team of dedicated professionals completed the power washing of the north side of our house and a complex restyling and refinishing of our deck that involved removing the deck railing and staining the deck. We are pleased with the work of Baystate. We simply cannot stop admiring the renovation of our deck and would call on Baystate in the future whenever we have a painting project."

"I looked on Angie's List to find a painter to paint the exterior of my house. I came across this company and I am glad that I did. They did a nice job and it was a pleasure to do business with Ageu and his crew. My first impression of Ageu was that he was trustworthy and competent and accommodating, and throughout the project he proved me right."

"I would highly recommend Star Painting!! They transformed my house into something that didn't look good into something beautiful! I absolutely love the job they did. They also were showed up whenever they said they would and finished the job quickly and in the time frame they quoted taking into consideration the rain days. Not to mention they are affordable and the crew was very friendly. I give them an A+"

"They just finished a job for me today (7/31/19). Power washed, scraped and painted my entire house, two decks and a shed and did it all in 3 and a half days. My house looks like a new house after they finished, they did a phenomenal job ! The guys were very friendly, professional and kept the work area clean daily. Can't say enough good things about them and their prices are very reasonable."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

An exterior paint job typically lasts between 5 and 10 years, though this can range from 3 to 17 years depending on several factors. The longevity is influenced by the quality of the paint and primer, the quality of the application, the local climate, and the type of surface being painted. For example, paint on wood siding may need to be redone every 3 to 7 years, while painted brick can last up to 17 years. Aluminum siding often needs repainting every 5 years.

When choosing between deck stain or paint, knowing what will last longer is important. Deck paint lasts longer than deck stain. With deck paint, you can get up to 10 years of coverage before you need to reapply. With deck stain, that time is significantly shorter at two to three years

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

You may be wondering: can you paint cement? Fortunately, the answer is yes.

To change the color of your cinder blocks, you have two options. You can either paint them or stain them. Either way, you'll be able to choose from a wide range of color options. Some popular colors for cinder block painting include off-white shades and gray tones, which add a modern spin to the traditional gray blocks.
