"Oh, boy--Erick (and Tom, his guy) have done work for me on my 100-yr. old home, for over a decade! First job -- Erick alone--built a gorgeous deck...neighbors couldn't stay away. ...still getting compliments. Last two big jobs-- redid garage and installed electric doors, and custom tiled a bath everyone else wanted to "demo". . In-between took care of several other problems as they came up. Ask them for my phone number and I will tell you more. Absolutely nobody compares in terms of ease of communication, (and creativity) so you actually get what you want, or better."

"We recently hired Miguel to install a glass tile kitchen backsplash. He was very easy to work with - extremely friendly and professional. He did a great job on the kitchen, we are very pleased with the outcome. We discussed a few other projects that we want done around the house, we will definitely hire him again and would recommend him to anyone."

"Tom was a pleasure to work with. He was prompt, efficient, and competent. He did an excellent job replacing broken ceramic tiles and regrouting. He showed consideration of homeowners throughout the project by completing the project in a timely manner and maintaining a clean work area. We are looking forward to working with Tom again for our next flooring project!"

"D&R were great. They did an excellent job with this project, and the floor and walls looked like new, seamless connections and fine finish work. They installed a floor that would allow water to drain beneath the floor to avoid future damage. I was very satisfied and have had no leaks since this work was done."

"I hired Ranchero Construction to frame a new wall around a gas fireplace we had installed on our home. The owner Sam was very professional and came with a reasonable price & complete walk through of the project. He also made sure to cover the floors when he was working, which we appreciated!"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of bathroom tile can be 50 years or more, depending on proper installation and regular maintenance. A well-done tile job, whether it's a new installation or a retiling project, can last for many decades. To lengthen the life of your tile, it's best to have it installed by a professional and to perform regular maintenance. This includes routine cleaning, resealing, and regrouting as needed. With proper care, you can expect your tile to last 10 years or more before needing major repairs or retiling, especially in high-traffic areas where tiles can wear out more quickly.

The choice of whether to tile or use an acrylic tub surround is up to you and can be based on a number of factors, including aesthetics, cost, waterproofing, ease of cleaning, and maintenance.

Tile is a beautiful, classic bathtub surround choice; while tile installation cost is higher, it’s customizable and offers visual appeal. Tile is also harder to clean and presents waterproofing problems because of grout lines. Acrylic surrounds can be more affordable, don’t require much maintenance, and are easier to clean. However, they aren’t usually as visually appealing and may need to be replaced if they become damaged.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.
