"Great! Awesome guy to work with, all finish work has nice tight seams, exterior work is clean and complete. Very knowledgeable when it came to code and all my questions. Would have never known he was on the job by the way he cleans up. Neat and organized. All around great company! Definitely will do business again for all of my construction based projects."

"We had a POSITIVE experience working with Roger of Byam Construction on two occasions. I first met Roger when a few rows of roofing shingles blew off last winter. I was amazed that he made the effort to come to our house that same evening to patch the shingles before rain the following day ! Because of this positive experience, a few months ago, I had him back to look at a serious issue that needed immediate attention. . Our home is near the ocean which lead to 31 years of severe degrading of cedar shingles , Anderson windows and wood trim. During driving rain storms water started leaking into our home. We met with other contractors also but Roger made more of a effort to meet with us on multiple occasions to review in detail what needed to be done to get the house weather tight once again. His recommendation to remove all of the shingles , trim and Anderson windows proved to be spot on as his fine crew of Brandon and Martin found water damage and rot behind the shingles and water damage inside of the 31 year old Anderson windows and Transoms. After removing all of the shingles, windows and trim his workers wrapped the entire house in ice /water type barrier before installing new Anderson windows, grade A shingles and Azek trim on the entire elevation. We couldn't be more pleased with workers attention to detail, quality of the products used , cleanliness and time frame it took to complete the job. We will have him back soon to work on other jobs in the near future. I highly recommend Byam Construction if you need this type of work done on your property! Si A. Centerville, Ma"

"The workers were superb. They worked all day long in the most professional, efficient way imaginable, all harnessed in all the time. The roof was tight, extremely well constructed and ventillated. I had an experienced foreign visitor here who had never been much impressed by American workmanship before but she was incredibly enthusiastic about what she saw the Long Roofers doing. They did everything that had been promised, protected the facades of my house and the one next door, cleaned up so that you would never know they had been there and perhaps most telling of all were proud of their work. I could not have been more pleased and would recommend Long Roof to anyone. It was worth every penny."

"Laurence and Fabiano were great! They came over and quoted the same day and finished the work just a few days later. They were friendly and worked within my schedule. I needed the bottom of my deck blocked off and I love the lattice work they did. Would definitely recommend!"

Window Door Contractors FAQs, answered by experts

Rescreening a door costs an average of $7 to $150. It’s a relatively easy process that only requires 30 minutes to an hour’s work.

The most affordable way to screen in a porch is to add a base track system to an existing wooden frame. The whole process should cost around $2,000 for supplies, depending on the size of your porch. It’s much pricier to build a screened-in porch or sunroom from scratch—and you’ll probably need to hire a contractor for a project like that.

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

Window seals don’t last forever, so they’ll inevitably fail for one reason or another. One of the most common reasons is the expansion and contraction of the glass. When the glass gets warm from sunlight, it expands and adds pressure to the seal; at night, as the glass cools, it contracts. This process, day in and day out, can eventually cause the seal to fail. Other common sources of failure include the house settling over time, chemicals that damage the seal when repainting windows, and incorrect window installation.
