"Kinsellabuilt was amazing when working on our 1950s home that needed significant work (full floor joist, plumbing, electric, interior walls, etc.) We worked with directly with Jon who was fantastic, explaining the process to us ever step of the way and making an incredibly stressful situation significantly easier. The price was reasonable, and they were incredibly accommodating to our needs. We would 100% recommend them to anyone who needs work done on their home."

"If I had to pick the ONE professional that has helped me the absolute most in the past two years- it would be Helène with Estate Organizing Specialists. It was no small task to tackle 40 years of cumulative generational "stuff" from multiple homes as it had found its way into storage units, and my Garage of Doom. Helène is so professional, so efficient, and so sensitive to the various tragic circumstances that make us all "material horders" to varying degrees. She comes in with no judgment and works miracles! I have hired her for my parents in preparation for their International move, as well as for myself before and after my own interstate move. Truly, I don't think I could have made it through with my sanity intact without her help!"

Small jobs welcome

Customers say: Quick response

"I am thrilled with my newly organized bedroom closet and am so pleased to know many of the items I no longer wear or need will be going to someone who will use them! I had been procrastinating and knew I needed help. Anne dug right in and helped me sort through years of collection with suggestions of what was best for my space and me. I couldn't have done it so well without her assistance. She also has a network of organizations and companies to donate to and sell. I love my newly organized space and won't hesitate to call Anne again. You should too!"

"MAB Woodworking responded to our online request for kitchen cabinet remodeling to accommodate a new current model refrigerator. Our 45 year old Amana refrigerator died suddenly & no modern refrigerator could fit into the existing built-in space. Ugh! Michael Butler, MAB founder, visited our home first to scope out a vision for moving the cabinets to allow room for a new KitcenAid 36” counter depth refrigerator. Michael sensed our urgency, immediately scheduled the repair, giving us a firm date for refrigerator install & appeared two days later completing the work on time & on budget. More about MAB can be found at mabwoodworking.com"

"socially, ari is a gentleman, with a gift for gab, thoughtful, sincere and honest. He's very likeable and has an interesting background. workwise: he's so thorough and unobtrusive you don't even realize that he's repaired the cracks in the wall he's painting or secured all the cabinet doors in the kitchen while fixing the ones that needed fixing. pricewise: for the multiple projects that needed addressing, from replacing doorknobs to painting closets, I found his final tab to be reasonable."

"Eric's team rebuilt our entire three season room, which was not functional. It is now, thanks to Mike and Brian. It also looks very good! Mike works hard at getting things done, and teaches the younger crew very well. He is structured and trustworthy. He also was patient answering my questions (I always have too many..!). Brian pays great attention to detail! I was impressed by how good the tile work looks, and also how good the finishing of the decking to the landing looks like, which he did. They also had to partly redo the patio, and it looks better than before."

"Jay worked with me on the costs per room on the request for proposal broken down by my Must Haves, Should Haves, and Nice to haves. Of painters who gave me quotes, his was broken down correctly. After the job, the quality was great and the cost was reasonable. I have also hired his team to do my gutters and other handy work. I would highly recommend meeting and getting quotes. They do everything and extremely friendly"

Closets questions, answered by experts

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

Plywood offers excellent stability and strength for drawer construction. Baltic birch plywood provides a premium appearance, while standard hardwood plywood offers good value. Solid wood works well but requires more attention to grain direction and seasonal movement.

There are a few reasons custom closets are expensive: materials used, the luxury factor, and time to build. The people who can afford custom closets are those who can afford increased rates, and construction workers and contractors know this and charge accordingly. The time to build custom closets is substantial, especially if expensive material is being used or intricate details (like carved wood) are added to the project.

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.
